Every time I read this list I shake my head in amazement at how many get ripped off by others. Where do you think this breed will be in 10 years if this keeps up? I'm glad I have no desire to breed or show a GSD from European lines.

Believe me, it isn't just European lines.....and not just German Shepherds...and not even just in dogs....unfortunately you will find it in anything. It gets very hard not to get jaded....but then you meet some great people and get out and have fun together with your dogs, and you get rejuvinated :-) Kristina

you know I have some amazing dogs that Van Den Heuvel imported for me, and she and her husband are just amazing. They are very honest and on one dog I got the import pedigree befor the dog even got here....very good people would recommend them anytime....and the dogs were exactally what Dari said they were. I am glad that I took the leap of faith with her and her husband. I was so disapointed with my first dog that I got from Zauberburg....he is just trying to rip people off. Heather

I have feeling if GSD's were selling for a few hundred instead of thousands, breeding and selling them might not be quite so attractive to some.

Agreed with both of you, always amazed by it and definitely scamartist, its NOT just dogs......... When buying a dog/pup, here is what i recommend one asks upfront: I also would like other buyers/sellers/breeders to submit suggestions that may help the Unaware buyer. ADULT DOG: Pedigree faxed to me prior to purchase Note the owner on pedigree Double Check ownership that countries registry References Show cards, Titling Book faxed to me then Send DEPOSIT first Request for transfer of ownership by seller Have proof faxed to me of transfer (bescheinigung in Germany) Once that PROOF is in my hands, send the remainder of the purchase/shipping price. When buying a PUP: Ownership of Sire/Dam proof of DNA registered (akc does this too ok DNA register I mean) Have ownership of litter faxed to you AKC will answer the litter registration question over the phone to you. called "Wurf Meldeschein" in Germany (litter reg. cert) The owner of the DAM has this and it will proof to you that he/she owns the litter and the Tattoo-er of their area has filled it out, with all tattoo nrs/names on it as well as the Sire and Dam of said litter. They ALWAYS get a copy ok. If they CAN NOT produce this, DON'T BUY THE PUP, as this may be a litter bred OUTSIDE of the alloted 90 breedings OR someone who is the care taker of the Stud without authorization of the owner and wants to make a quick buck and is paid under the table with in mind to sell it abroad. ENTIRE Litters are bred/sold like this because they know they can get away with it... Once the pup is here what are you going to do about it??? Anyone with additional suggestions, please post!

Saoa has pointed out some good preventative measures. The dog may be two before you see it but it surely will be yours unless they send the wrong dog.... If it is a good deal someone will probably buy it locally before all of the safeguards in the transaction take place. Good dogs at fair prices go quickly as with anything. If you don't trust the person enough and have to make the deal airtight, how can you trust them to sell you a good dog in the first place? Trust is probably the universal concern with most of the deals. Trust someone and get a good deal it's great. Restores your faith in the human race. Trust and get a bad deal and it's double the agony. I buy most of mine sight unseen from people I learned to trust after weeding out a few of the others.

Did any of you see the site Puppyescrow.com yet?? \

by Het on 15 April 2005 - 04:04

wow I know people talked about doing this, but didn't think it would happen....but I couldn't find who the person was that is running the site. what does everyone think of this?? Heather

Amazing is that Puppyescrow.com offers such services from a PO Box office. Hmmm.... And an escrow service from a design company? Rather than a legal firm? Hmmm again.... In addition they claim that their services are recommended by sites such as Terrificpets.com and Pupcity.com. Interesting that these three sites are registered to the same company/person: Registrant: JCOM Designs PO Box 15124 New Bern, North Carolina 28561 The also mentioned that pets-for-sale.links.ws endorses them, though their site is just a paid link. Might be interesting to hear some feedback from someone who has actually used them. From what I see so far, I would not.
