Shelley Strohl

Mmmmmm Lasso di Val Sol. Good choice! Another name from back when show dogs worked and working dogs showed. Too bad no one froze any of HIS semen! Eiko Kirschental (Uran x Lasso fm) I LOVED Blue vom Scipio. Again, working dogs/show dogs = same dogs. MY kind of dogs!

FOR CHARLIE IVORY------your dog is beautiful (randy)  but where are his progeny?

LMH Just to describe the situation. I and my wife (she was 6 months pregnant)were taking our two dogs for a walk in the forest. Buddy was 18 moths and Nufo was 3 months old. We were attacked by a pack of stray dogs (7-8 quite big dogs). At that time Buddy was chasing a squirl somewhere in the woods. I grabbed a stick to defend us and my wife grabbed Nufo in her arms and she was hiding behind me. We were completely surrounded and situation was quite serious. Suddenly Buddy came charging from the forest, grabbed the big black dog (probably leader of the pack) by the throat and started shaking hime left and right, blood was all over the place. Other strays were so stunned none of them reacted. Buddy releases the first dog and grabbes the next one, throat again. The first one, the leader, whined and run away, others followed except the one Buddy grabbed. I had some problems persuading my dog to let go. I saw it in his eyes, he was ready for anything, to kill or to be killed, just to protect his family. Can you ask for more.

No, Kenan. You can't ask more than the ultimte sacrifice. A great dog is great not because of any titles, whether they be for sport or beauty. What makes a dog great is his heart. Schutzhund titles tell me if a dog is more than likely physically and mentally sound. Not 100% sure of that even. But the odds are better with some titles. A dog that puts his life in jeopardy, like Buddy, is a true hero. And when the *true test* comes, I personally have found that big civil, defense and prey drives are never a factor. It's the heart--I wish more people had the 'smarts' to recognize and perpetuate this quality. Funny, isn't it, how dogs immediately know who the leader is---Years ago, one of my guys (who I found to be extremely level-headed and non-aggressive) was always the first to be challenged by an aggressive-stud-type dog. At first, I thought the aggressor was a 'shi't' for trying to attack the easier opponent. Eventually realized that he was the true leader and protector---no barking-no posturing. Just plain heart.

I like the one I have. He is comical, full of personality, self confident, gregarious and yet he knows he has a job--to protect me if he senses danger. I can't think of a dog I'd rather have.
