In my oppinion, there are many showline dogs work very well, however, few showline owners are interested in making perfect training, the goal is to make the title for breeding and make the courage test at the SS. And I agree, why risk injury to their dog? A lot of making titles also depends on the helper and the trainer, even the BEST working dog will fail with the wrong helper/trainer Urban von Gleisenauer Schloss had excellent bitework when I saw him at the 2004 NASS. For workability I like the line of Ghandi as well as Ulk, you really have to go to the Sieger Shows and see for yourself. I have heard that some of the Ursus lines take longer to mature, and have seen a few dogs out of the line of Natz Steiglerhof that were lacking in nerves. The Dux line also has a few that failed the courage test. However, all should be judged on an individual dog basis, there are good and bad exampes of ALL lines and some of the time its not the dogs that were bad...it was the handler/trainer. It all depends on what you are looking for, if you want to make competetive sport and compete on national level, get a good workingdog. If you are looking to make SchH titles and maybe do a few shows, get a showdog. There is good and bad in both lines.

you can't just look at one line, there are many other dogs that are involved with the pedigree. Gucci does produce very nice drive pups. I have seen many and they all pretty much had great drives. But the mothers side also needs to be good. If that makes any sense. I don't think this is a question that can really be answered...because it is all a matter of opionon..and dogs being raised correctly. Heather

I have both Larus Son and A Quirin female. As far as work goes the female is a monster supery drive and great comformation. My male is a lot more calm but he definitely loves the work. I think it more so comes down to puppy selection. I will say this be careful for what you wish for as a super drivy dog if not kept busy can term into a nuisance from the standpoint of being bored. Good luck

Look at the fallowing lines: Uri von Amulree Dando aus Nordrheinland Hobby vom Gletschertopf I also saw a VERY HIGH drive puppy out of Hill Farbenspiel and Saber vom Steffen-Haus daughter recently. I personally would recommend you to look at some nicely structured working line dogs. If you look long enough, you will find them. As a beginner, you inevitably will make mistakes in training, and working line dogs are usually more forgiving.

I am really liking my female from the Trienzbachtal lines...a little slow maturing, but perfect temperament and structure!!!

I have a 3.5 yr old male that is part show part DDR that loves to work and has nice drives when it is time to turn it on. I also have a 7.5 month old Czech female out of Norbo Ben Ju / Exa z. Esagilu that is completely off the charts when it comes to drives. What I am getting at is that I thought my male had middle to high drive until I got my female. I would definitley go out and look at each type of dog and see what people say about that dog's drive. What you consider high drive somebody may consider just moderate. And definitely becareful for what you wish for because you may just get it. I told Dari at Van Den Heuvel k-9 I wanted the highest drive, toughest, hardest female she could get me and man did she deliver. This female is a handful on a daily basis. And hard doesn't even begin to describe this dog. Good luck on your search and definitely do a lot of research.

Dari is just the best....I have gotten 3 girls all imported from her. My black female I really like the best. she is perfect in the house calm, easy going, but on the field she is VERY high drive. She is producing this too. Great dog...with very nice confermation. I highly recommend talking to Dari about getting a dog. She will be able to get exactally what you want Heather

I have a Von Neuenberg son and he's the most stunning and typey GSD I've ever seen. He is frighteningly intelligent and has perfect hips at the age of 8. Most people think he's 2 years old based on his energy level and young appearence. The Lasso lines have amazing coloring. Instead of the typical black and red, it can best be described as black and orange. I have never found a West German line shepherd in America as beautful as this Lasso progeny dog. Temperamentwise these dogs are not for the novice GSD owners. They are extremely protective to the point of needing an experienced handler. I really believe the beauty and intelligence level that comes out of the Lasso line is unmatchable. But when it comes down to type, we reach a gray area of opinion and different lines are a match for different people.

Brittany:  I have a Uri grandaughter and a freind has a Uri daughter.  Both dogs are great.  Mine is 18 mos and we just started training in Schutzhund.  I am a novice, so cannot say if it is the correct amount of drive you will be looking for, but I can highly recommend purchasing from Fiona (was Uri's owner).  This is the first time I have imported pups and everything went exactly as planned.  Fiona even called me in the middle of the night (her time) to make sure the pups arrived safely and were in my hands.  When I am ready for my next pup - I will be contacting Fiona.

Good luck in your search.
