ZVZW

I would like to take one moment and ask some of you to post your comments on what ALL you actually use, or that is takes for you to go to shows etcetera.Cages, Vari kennels, shampoos, conditioners or what? This is to kind of prove that dog shows are a serious and expensive hobby and not some money making event. Most of the time a trophy, ribbon is about all wed get, right? Thats an if and not an always! The expense it takes to do what we love best, and I think thats to compete, make new friends of whom all have the same interest>? I look forward to nay input you can me. Thanks, Jerry

very good question ZVZW I will love this one as I was trying to figure out what to take with me. also does anyone have a link where I can buy a show collar? and what leads does everyone prefer any ideas on this is very welcome

We take our XLG Metal cages, ground covers, exercise pens, leashes, collars and extra's in case of loss, Shampoo/Conditioner, 6 different brushes, 3 combs of various uses, babywipes, wash clothes and towels, Shamies, dishes, water from home or bottled. First aid kit(2) just in case, all copies of records(reg cert, pedigree, shot records, previous show wins, etc) And I am sure I forgot one or two things. It is worse than packing for a vacation, but if we win or lose it is very expensive to go and to show. Not a money maker for sure. GSD Newbie, I prefer the Cobra collar for showing, it is a twisted metal that doesn't tangle in the hair and it very nice to look at too. Comes in Gold or Silver, which is nice because you can compliment your dog. I own 2 of each color in the sizs I need, they run about $26-40 each.

I was going to list almost all the things you just did, vomveiderheiss, but I only show at AKC shows and didn't know what you need at shows like the NASS. I thought you guys would make fun of all the stuff I take and the AKC style of showing would take another kick in the butt LOL. The only thing I don't see on your list that I would carry is a blow dryer, preferrably the type used to dry cattle, the ones that are so powerful you almost need to nail the dog's feet to the table to keep him from being launched into orbit LOL. That is pending the availibility of an electric hookup of course which most AKC shows do have.

thank you Vomveiderheiss!! could i ask where to purchase one? I am getting ready to show my girl in Pittsburg. what leads work the best for the handlers? leather nylon anything in particular? am used to AKC shows this is completly foreign to me I have seen a regional video but that is it. Any safty tips for my dog would be extemly welcomed too please? we figured her wire crate a shade tent like an easy up, all the shows I attended were indoors. anything else you can think of would be appreciated very much.

GSDnewbie..check out www.dog.com they have a lot of different stuff on there for cheap...they have the martingale collar about $6 bucks cheaper than at Petco or Petsmart...just check it out it's fun to look at anyway.. I figured I'd go cheap until I can see what the boy can do..ha...then if he does good, I'll have to make some investments..

thanks Brandoggy but i am looking for the other kind dont think they would have them. Have you decided to come to Pittsburg with your boy?

by vomveiderheiss on 26 July 2005 - 19:07

I got my Cobra collar from Omaha Vaccine company. If you can't find one there, I am looking for another distributor. I use leather leads for showing, nylon is okay, but one of my dogs likes to chew on the tip on the leather and it is my "bait" per say to keep her attention. I never use a blow dryer, I use a mini shop vac, one to vaccuum up hair and to suck the water out of their coats after they have been shamied, and then air dry for the natural shine, versus the blow dry that seems to take some of the shine, JMO. I forgot the shop vac in my list.

lol I use shop vac here at home when bathe too lol attack the shedding fuzz all the time and blow dry. anyone know of show collars in the states for sale? I am partial to leather myself better feel better grip to me. Guess that is maybe a handler preference maybe they might want to use their own? i dont have a clue folks speak up please. Do many bathe the day of the show instead of just before it? any trimming of the feet or anything? I always thought it is natural no trimming am i wrong? I have been using a modified collar I made while teaching her to gait it is slightly stretchy in the sides and firm at the base of the neck she is gaiting without pulling on it but want to get show collar and use it on her soon as possible. Didn't expect to be bringing her is a change of plans now have to scramble.
