MVF

Every generation finds a new euphemism for its hate.  Has it by now become sadly obvious that the new way to abuse a black man in the White House is to call him a socialist?

I am an economist who has studied the political economy of socialism in some depth, and Obama barely qualifies as a liberal, much less a socialist.  The left is angry with him for his centrism, and the right has taken on the affect of the 18th and 19th century screaming tent revivalists.  But instead of calling him the devil, or calling him the N-word, the new N-word is "socialist."

If he even had an inkling of socialism in his platform or attitude, I suppose one could tolerate it.  But a government option so that the poorest 1/6 can have some form of rationed health care is not socialism -- unless we are so far gone that all of the civilized world outside the US is socialist. Isn't it obvious to everyone that this is just racism, very thinly disguised?  (Of course it is not obvious to racists!  I am asking the rest of you.)

**

Some people are freaking out that the children of undocumented aliens may get free health care under the new plan.  Not only is this not true (you have to be a paid member of the alternative health care plan to get care -- illegals will have to continue to get care in the ER as they do now) but aren't we ashamed to scream about kids getting emergency health services?  When my wife was traveling in Thailand, her son was in an accident.  Thai doctors and nurses and EMT folks all rushed to his aid and kept him alive -- and eight hours later charged her $20!  When I had an accident in New Zealand, a public clinic took me in and a doctor and two nurses worked on me for two hours -- and apologized because they had to charge me $35!  Why aren't Americans ashamed by the way we treat foreigners in need of care on our shores?  I just don't get it.  Is it just another form of racism?

It is my impression that the new "black" is trying to paint those who disagree with the president and democratic majority as a racist.   Of course that would not be obvious to a liberal!

Disagree as you will -- you're welcome to do so.  I am critical of much of what is going on in DC, myself -- by Dems and GOP alike.

But the honest criticism has nothing to do with socialism.  That's the new expression for racists, as far as I can tell.  That was my point.  You apparently missed it.

Didn't miss your point at all.  You just proved mine however.  Those who disagree with the policies of the majority would still disagree with those same policies no matter what the color of the majority.  Nancy and Harry are white the last time I checked.

MVF - you are out of touch with reality.   The fact that Obama is half black and identifies himself as black is the reason that he is getting a Pass on everything -- especially by our Country's so-called Main Stream Media.   Whenever anyone disagrees with Obama's policies, they are called a racist or a bigot -- nothing could be further from the truth.  You are wrong in your assumption that the "new black" is "socialism."   Also, stop your bragging about your Education, Degrees, etc., -- I'm not impressed,    Just because you have a Formal Education does not make you a well-rounded person -- perhaps "book smart" in your specific area of study, but that is about the extent of it.    You are also very wrong when you state that this is a new way of abusing the Black man.   Reverse discrimination has been going on in this country for many years.   Where have you been ???    Quite frankly, this discrimination/slavery/victimization crap is wearing very, very thin.   I don't owe anyone a damn thing.  I never owned any slaves, nor did my parents and grandparents.   Are you a follower of the Reverand (cough, cough) Al Sharpton or "shake-down" Jesse Jackson?    Get REAL !!

MVF I know what you mean.  Most of the people who like to scream about President Obama being a socialist,  haven't a clue what socialism is or isn't,  they just think it sounds good.  More of the "sky is falling" mentality.

Sue -- take a hike.

Guilt trips don't work on me, MVF, neither does the "racist" label.  It is not about race, never was.  And most of the others in that cabinet are white, as Dave pointed out.  No, our problem lies in the fact that the federal government, regardless of its figurehead, will be in control of everything in the United States, from what salary companies can pay their executives, to mandatory health care coverage, even if you cannot afford it, or don't need it, to banking and insurance, and finally, all social policies.

What I find amazing is that tolerance is preached, and obedience to a bunch of pin head politicians who are out of touch with reality, but none of that tolerance is extended to those of us who see the destruction of our nation, our freedoms,  (that includes the right to bear arms, and the right to free speech) as a direct attack on our people.

The more "highly educated" a person is, the more likely they are to be okay with the government holding the hands of the people, telling them what to do, what to think, and what to pay in taxes.  I'm sorry, but I can think for myself, and I don't think there's a need for the federal government to be in control of banks, medicine, my money, my family, and my social choices.

Several states are currently working on declaring themselves Sovereign from the federal government.  I hope my state follows suit.  The federal govt needs to be reminded that they are not God, they are not in charge.  As Americans we have responsibility to keep the government in check.
