The 8 bucks was accidently posted here... I apologize. Why do shelter dogs deserve to eat such crap food like Purina?? If you really want to support them, Get decent quality food and donate it to them. Nutro max is the way to go.

Valley Proteins says that 150 million pounds of rotting flesh are fed into the plants grinders and cookers each year to produce 80 million pounds of the plants three products; meat and bone meal, tallow and yellow grease. Most goes into chicken feed, the rest into dry pet food. Valley Proteins sells inedible animal parts and rendered material to Alpo,Heinz and RALSTON PURINA among other pet food makers. January 31, 2001- NOT FIT FOR A DOG Chuck Schroeder, CEO of the National Cattlemen's Beef Association issued this press release last last night: "Reports today from the FDA indicate there were very small amounts of meat-and-bone meal detected in cattle feed supplements produced by a Purina feed mill in Texas last week. Purina Mills announced that it is voluntarily purchasing all 1,222 of the animals held in Texas and the animals will not enter the food chain. Purina Mills issued their own press release, They revealed that over one million pounds of possibly infected meat will be processed and sold for "non-human" uses. In other words, cats and dogs of America may be eating something that will one day cause a wasting type of encephalitis in their brains. The entire Texas Mad Cow Disease scare was an orchestrated event. Mad Cow Disease is difficult to diagnose. Scientists and regulators know that there is a long incubation period. No way animals will test positive for mad cow disease one week after eating tainted meat. Ralston Purina will not sell the fattened cattle for human consumption. What happened to last week's cattle. Last months? Is this food on your supermarket's shelf? One wonders how long Ralston Purina has been serving up rendered British beef to American cattle. What did you eat at last year's July 4th barbecue? - Robert Cohen

You would not feed this to your dog but you bring it to this board trying to promote free food??....Purina is Crap...I don't care if it is new or not! As for Brittany, Lets see here, you state don't give it to your animal shelters because why do they deserve it??..Well shelters are in need of food and if they can not afford to buy it since it is run on donations, why not?.....and nutro max??? pour some milk on it and try it.....I feel if you would not eat it then why let your dog eat it....Do some research people before you toss fido a bowl of crap!...Love your dog...Feed them what you would consume.

In addition to a mix of premium kibble, I give my dogs Solid Gold Green Tripe from the can. There is NO WAY!!!! that I would pour milk over that and eat it, Biv. (laughing at the thought) That doesn't mean it's not something the dogs love to eat, it just means we don't see eye to eye on what's edible. ;)

I was making a point there Vom....if you are bragging how good it is..then eat is my point. I don't shout brand names of food here....it is what you feel is good but don't promote like they are..Free Purina or Nutro is the way to go....I (IMO) would not give my dog something that is not fit for Humans. Warm water might taste better on it then milk...let me know.

<<>> While the Directors of some of these SPCA continue to receive a salary in excess of $100,000.00 a year as well as an excessive waste of money for unessesary overhead expenses, I could see where there is no money left for quality food for the dogs/cats. But when you compare the amount of shit food you need to feed a dog to get the nutritional equivalent of the quality food fed, it is in fact cheaper to feed the quality food. Our shelter feeds dogs Canidae which they buy for about 26 bucks a bag. Not bad.

Last comments on this subject: a starving animal or person for that matter doesnt care the brand of food all they care is that it is food.( Feed any starving animal or ask anyone who has been w/o food for any reason...)you'll see food all of the sudden becomes just that food. Some of us fortunately don't have to worry (or care) about brand names but some of do.Although I can afford and many on this board can probably afford brand of choice but not eeryone can....I am by no means promoting (OR KNOCKING!!!) any brand. I am simply stating there is free stuff out there for those who want to partake either for their own or to help those in need shelters etc.....I DID NOT MAKE THIS POST FOR VENTING PLEASE GO ELSEWHERE FOR THAT. rEMEMBER IF YOU DON'T WANT TO PARTAKE OR HELP ANIMALS IN NEED THEN DON'T BUT please DON'T BASH THOSE WHO DO....PLEASE!!! Biv1196 no disrespect but for saying you are not mentioning any brands you mentioned at least a couple in the same comment???!!! Anyway take care all and for those going to NASS hope to see you there (well, some of you...LOL..)Seriously it be great to put a face to the name on the board..... Respectfully, Dan Heskett

Biv, Nutro max is one of thee best dog foods there is... You sound like a typical raw food fan... Lets considerer this into perceptive.. When I was feeding my Jake this Purina crap food he developed too golf ball size lumps in his neck... it was aweful... I took him to the vet and they did a bio. on him... they didn't know what it was... however they gave me some anti biotics and inflamtary medication... It managed to get rid of 1 lump however the other was extremely big...I was worried about cancer/tumor.. I soon realize that maybe, Just maybe it was the food. I bought a huge bag og Nutro max food and guess what?!?! THE LUMP started dissipating. It's gone now.

by Biv1996 on 19 September 2005 - 04:09

Brit, No I don't feed raw and for you to say Nutro max is the best there is shows me you are not educated on this subject, But you are allowed your own opinion. Food causing lumps??.Food taking away lumps??..If my dog had a lump in his throat and then vet didn't know what it was.....I would go to a specialist......Oncologist. I hope you are not a breeder.....If you had a lump in your throat would you change foods?.. Dan, I only mentioned food brought up by you and Brit. I never said what I feed. I would not feed my dog Purina due to its contents but for a shelter needing food for a animal that has none.....why not!

by Dan Heskett on 19 September 2005 - 09:09

Take Care Biv, Thanks for clarifying. Hope to talk to you again soon or if at NASS maybe we'll bump into one another. Respectfully, Dan
