Does anyone here have a White Shepherd? If so, did you register with the UKC as a White Shepherd or a White German Shepherd Dog? I am thinking I will register River as a White Shepherd as I don't want her judged against colored dogs if the judge happens to be biased against the white dogs. I know not everyone is against the white dogs but some people still don't think highly of them and I don't want to be at a disadvantage because of it. What do you guys think? ~Erica~

There is no such a thing as white German Shepherd. GSD stadard does not allow white color. It can only be Swiss White Shepherd. Judge has nothing to be biased about. Thats how it is here in Europe and I would be pretty surprised to hear that somewhere GSD can be white. Sorry, let me retract that. After Panda Shepherds anything is possible.

Erica, I don't know where you are located, but if you are talking about showing against other German Shepherds, you won't have a problem, because the "white" dog would not be allowed to compete anyways. Stephen

Erica, I believe the White shepherd people have their own club and registry and I'd recommend you pursue their organization.. I know white dogs are showable in conformation in UKC but not sure how it is done as far as classification. You can however show your white dog in AKC performance events.. Sorry to not be of more help

According to the AKC, there IS a classification for "White" German Shepherd Dog on the Individual Dog Registration Application. A white dog "must be disqualified" from conformation shows. This means, that in the United States, there is such a thing as a white GSD, it just cannot be shown in any type of conformation shows. This white color does not fall within the German breed standard, as it states "white is not permissible." This is not to say that there is no such thing, just that they are not recognized by the German registry for German Shepherd Dogs. Afterall, if you breed two GSD's, and get a white puppy, it is still a GSD from two GSD parents. To classify it otherwise seems dishonest to me.

And that is why UKC accepts them and they have formed their own club.. The GSDCA....not really AKC, each parent breed club claims their own breeds standard......does not recognize them in conformation but does allow them in performance....

<<>> It's getting to a point that AKC will pretty much allow anything to be registered as long as there is MONEY included in your registration application. And yes anything is possible why with the Liver coat shepherds, Panda Shepherds, etc. Pretty soon we will have two headed shepherds, I think they call that a dual purpose dog. They already have a two headed pitbull ....I saw it in the Enquirer. As far as the white shepherd, take the dog and dip him in brown dye. When that is dry dip his nose and his back in black dye and whalla you got your blk/tan. Uwe

I'm not trying to pick on anyone here but PLEASE Educate Me. I may be following the wrong standerd all these years or maybe there never really was a Max v. Stephanitz, But HOW does the following in a breeders Ad benefit the German Shepherd as Max V. Stephanitz had planned. -White Longcoated male, stocky with heavy bone -White male with black mark - some structural faults, toes out in front, carries tail a bit too high for my likes, COULD be used for breeding if one is aware of his faults and breeds appropriately, so as not to double up on them -White, cream sable, black/silver and silver sable expected -Cream Sable Longcoat -Black/cream/silver (1/4 German Import lines) carries longcoat factor and also carries white factor from her sire. I just may have to get away from Blk/Tan, Sables, and Blk shepherds with working titles and KKL and start breeding Longcoat cream sable w/black marks shepherds that are 1/8 German, 1/8 DDR, 1/4 American, 1/16 Czech, 1/16 Slovak, 1/4 Norweigan and 1/2 Italian that have TT, CGC, FYI, NFD, GOA.
