Krazy Bout K9s

by Krazy Bout K9s on 31 December 2009 - 02:12

Here is another breeder/iimporters dog coming into the rescue. 2 1/2 yrs old beautiful, neutered male. Too protective for the present owner that has MS, dog is attacking, protecting her from her husband. Name of person she bought the dog from is Ray Reid, Oregon...he won't get back to her, and she has been trying for couple months. I called and left a message for him and he then called her, said he would call her back and hasn't yet. So Kaiser is coming into my rescue, probably had some Schutzhund and tracking work done on him...owner never received the commands for him like she was supposed to, so we don't know how he was trained...she has been doing some tracking work with him and he responds beautifully...
Reg name; Lenon de Santa Monica-Col.
Better photos tomorrow, these were from the owner...
Anyone interested????

Steph, you shouldn't have a problem placing him, He has Rikkor vom Bad-Boll in his pedigree from what I can tell! Nice dog!

Ooh, sharp eye!  Yes, looks like he's line-bred on Rikkor, 5-6, if I'm reading it right.

'Consanguindad' means 'consanguinity' or the sharing of a common blood relative.

Ray Reid - Vom HausReid in Salem Oregon?  Maybe someone here knows him and can jumpstart him into taking responsibility and taking the dog back for retraining and placement  rather than him relying on poor Steph having to pick up the pieces and do his work for him:
If this is the guy, here is his website   http://www.germanshepherdpets.net/

You know ...

I'm probably going to catch flack for this but it's a subject near to my heart at the moment and I feel kinda passionate about it so here goes.

I'm in a situation where a dog I got from a breeder has just not worked out for me.  I just can not continue to live with this dog.  It's a situation where personalities just collide like a freight train.  I've had him for 2 years and believe me there is absolutely no assistance coming from the breeder/importer who sold me the dog.

But after that amount of time, I don't feel there should be so I've taken on the responsibility of working with people in my area who have the connections to properly assist me in rehoming him into the best possible situation for the dog.  We've combined my experience as his owner, with their knowledge of working GSDs, their contacts and I'm making sure he's up to date on his shot records and paperwork so it's all ready to go when we find the home for him.

I'm his owner now it's *my* responsibility to do these things.  Could I just dump him at a rescue or at the pound?  Of I could but I.am.his.owner.

Steph, you do a great service to the breed and know more about the details of the situations of your rescues than I'm sure come across on this message board.

But I just can't help thinking that if you took the precious time and energy resources at your disposal and focused on working with and educating owners and working with the resources you have access to and less time pointing fingers at breeders and yelling at breeders/importers, you'd be better off.

Am I saying that breeders shouldn't be responsible for their dogs?  No, that's not what I'm saying and I know a lot of breeders who take their dogs back, hell many of them here on this message board do.

But there is a responsibility taken on by the owner when they sign that contract/paperwork and just fussing at one half of the contractural party doesn't seem productive.

No it's not always going to be happily ever after but I guess I'm saying that if people worked together more instead of getting defensive, making accusations, trying to 'force' a hand, badmouthing and otherwise fingerpointing, more could get done to rehome dogs properly.

Just a thought.
