Not a single problem in holding a job!!! now you do and are doing what you hate so much! You started this off topic thread and just as you hijack other peoples threads now you are whinning because you are getting some of what you dish out! It is perfectly fine for you to call me names but no one else can adress you in the same manner! Buyt go ahead and keep on throwing rocks ! I just consider the source!  Yep plenty of people in this country hurting real bad ! I have not seen you or any of your other comrades in arms asking people to donate money to stop abortion or help families in foreclosure! As far as holding a job I really have no need to work for a living! I made very wise financial investments and only work as a hobby and to provide those who cannot afford to pay a carpenter  for their home repairs!

by beetree on 24 January 2010 - 14:01

Ray-Ray, clearly you are possessed of mediocre skills and have no clear passion for your craft. I find carpenters who are honest, hardworking and extremely skilled are able to find work even in the bleakest of times. I admit they are a rare breed, and are a blessing when discovered. I am employing one right now.

Your arguments are just plain worthless, you have not a clue on the nature of good deeds, how philanthropy works, or how the various plights within the human condition have nothing to do with one another on a personal level, and serve you only as an excuse to do nothing.

Mediocre skills !!!!!!!!!!!!!!   Beetree I am known far and wide as the man who makes honey out of dog poop! No passion for my craft!!!  Unfortunately due to my retirement contract I can not work as a carpenter for monetary gain twit1 If I do and am caught I would forfeit my pension! I can return to work in any field but the trades! so you see beetree you only make yourself look the fool!  Nature of good deeds1 Why the wizard of Oz was by just yesterday to award me with my testimonial! And it came with a brand new heart too! If you wish I can send you pictures of all those non paying good deeds and names of those whom I philanthropied????  A musician Hugh1 Can you hum a few bars of this???? HUMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM

by beetree on 24 January 2010 - 21:01

LOL, retirement contract? More like disability fraud. Gotta love those unions, absolutely great how they get people to work less for more money. Or in your case. Don't work and get money. That could be characterized as being leechlike. Certainly, not what I call the American way. LOL  You couldn't find the yellowbrick road with night vision goggles. And send those pictures, just like you offered, I really can't wait to see what is your idea of being magnanamous.

Again allow me to illuminate your ignorance dear! I was on both sides of the union non union fence1 Those non union contractors a far better rapists than the union contractors!  And yes I worked for 30 years making contributions along with my employers into my pension fund twit! I worked and beat my body for that pension asshole so shut you pie hole! And thank the unions for what ever rat hole you live in it is a safer and better built rat hole because of the training our apprentice program instituted to train carpenters correctly and safer! But i long ago discovered that those who hate unions do so because they can not be a part of one!  Sure I wll post too you pictures ! Would you like them pm or publically! I certainly would not want to embarress you openly!

hodie, this was and still is, a worthy OT thread. it would be  wonderful  to have a tool to be able to bar certain people from posting, but hey, if we just DO NOT respond to their utterly vile nonsense, maybe they will eventually go away. thanks for starting this thread and i have donated (a few times now). the people of haiti are fellow human beings, in horribly dire circumstances, and they will need help for some time. maybe this time, the long term help can be done better. one of the saddest things about the respondents to this thread are the "right wing"  attitudes. so much for "compassionate conservatism".  i will give my thanks to george w. bush for stepping up with bill clinton, at president barack obama's request, to lend his voice and appeal for help, but i don't think too many of his followers have bothered to listen.

 Angusmom,

I could not agree more with your post. And yes, former President Bush has done the right thing, and in fact, the "American" thing in stepping up. I am appalled that so many think they need not help for all the wrong reasons. For so many years, our nation has been known as the leader of the world when it came to helping and stepping up. Thankfully, some are still leading the way, despite those who would do nothing.

You are absolutely correct that this situation will not be resolved for years. In the immediate future are questions about how to house perhaps more than a million people. When the weather changes, or a hurricane comes (and I hope it does not), the people cannot be living in tent cities made with a few scraps of sheets and tin they found in the ruins. So many people living in such close quarters with so little sanitation and basic necessities presents a real threat of something catastrophic to follow. So time to make some immediate difference is growing very short.

In the short term, a friend today told me he is seeing already some effort by the people, despite the hundreds of thousands who still lack basic necessities. Slowly the aid situation is stabilizing and the port has one dock open and a road into the city. The airport is landing more than 10 times the number of aircraft they normally do, and there are still more than 1000 planes seeking clearance to fly in supplies just this last few days. None the less, there are thousands and thousands seriously injured and many of these people will need long term followup, surgery and care. The orphan number was estimated to be about 380,000-400,000 BEFORE the quake. Now who knows what it is.

Yet these people have a spirit and a resilience that is to be admired. The people are cleaning and clearing what they can with their hands. They are cutting hair, sewing, planting small gardens, trying to wash their few clothes and trying to find ways to start what will be a monumental growth process for all of them for years to come. If all the nations and peoples of the world come forward to help, Haitians will have a chance to make some dramatic improvements in their nation and society. They can do it and we have a moral obligation to help. Before the quake they had made progress and barring another emergency, they can come back from the brink. It is amazing that they have behaved with grace and dignity, with very, very few exceptions (probably about the number of incidents that would occur on a normal day as far as criminal activity goes). This says a lot for them, despite what some have tried to post here. My friend is there. He sees what there is there and what is happening.

Thanks for getting us back on topic.
