I do think that dogs are so important to us that the dating site idea is a good one.

BabyEagle,
Has anyone figured out the crop damage?

BabyEagle4U

by BabyEagle4U on 30 July 2010 - 17:07

Not for certain, but we did get some local paper attention in the sound off and editors section. I suspect our next meeting will have many newcomers.

The fruit tree farmers are really pissed. They pretty much took over for us field croppers attention wise ... but like you said on the other thread .. there's nothing to remedy this. It's in mother nature's hand now.  I see alot of not so educated commentary pointed towards plant mites, weevils, beetles and aphids ... but, anyone who plants crops for a living knows the spin.

I've seen all the crap on Youtube but I was wondering if anyone had any definitive answers yet.

I dunno, I was thinking about cutting early like in the next week or so and selling as Corn Silage to a pig farmer. His idea.

Then plant 100% sweet corn. It's a gamble though pretty late in the season. If I do do this, pray for me please to have a 3-4 week spring like extention before fall.

I never have much luck with late season crops here.

I would harvest as planned until I found out more about the spots.

I'm convinced about the spots after the first meeting, we all brought sample greens and tested the ph and chemical comp there.. it's not pests. Although nothing University about it, just a community brain storm.

If I take the gamble on the corn fields, I tripple my income (welfare people depend on me ya know) with the corn silage and a run on sweet corn .. if I wait and do the normal season .. well ... to be honest I'd rather feed it to pigs.

But I dunno yet, I'll need to round up help and different machinery for the silage .. I've never attemped this before. I'd love to do 100% Alfalfa, but that would ruin the fields for next years grain. Not worth it.

Maybe this is a good choice. We'll see.

Good Alfalfa takes some investment,  whats on the leaf may not effect the crop at all,
If the pigs eat it there goes my pork chops n bacon.
Farming has always been half prayer and half gambling.

Oh well,
think about it some more....... no rush makes sense.
