Ms. Penery, none of my business, but I don't understand, with your accomplishments in the GSD World, why you would spar with these people who do nothing for the GSD. No trials, no shows, no training, nothing other than endless posts on this board. You can't win. They never stop (as shown in the Molly thread)  this board is their only contribution to the GSD.

Anyway, as a former Am. S/L breeder/exhibitor, I always appreciate your input and advice. Let these losers go. They are never going to make an impact on the GSD in the U.S. Never going to show up at a trial or show, never going to accomplish what you have in the GSD world. They are nothing other than flies buzzing around a horse's a**. They don't matter anywhere outside of this board.

JMHO,
Rik.

Rik,

Thanks for your kind comments. Thank you for your input in the spirit in which it was intended. Didn't realize that you knew me.  I have seen your posts here and on GSD World ( the greenboard) but can't recall meeting you personally.

Strange, when I first met someone in Texas a couple of years ago, she said she associated me more with dog training than with breeding.  Even my Am-bred SL dogs always had performance titles. When I was showing my Ch Tucker HIll's Oracle UDT in the Parade of Greats at a GSDCA National Specialty in Southern California, I heard someone standing behind me asking who he was. The stage-whispered  response I heard was: "Oh, that's Louise's obedience dog">

OMG!!!! You mean American Showline GSDs can actually work and get titles?  NO WAY!!!!  AND YES I am being VERRRY sarcastic... I know they can work, I bred a litter that resulted in 3 of 7 going to police depts and actually became working patrol and narc dogs. However, it was back in the late 1980's. They were not the same than, as they are now..I am not saying they can't work now..Just saying they are different..I don't believe that any GSD can not be taught to do a job, if the trainer has the time, patience, and knowledge to train..

Rik,

I credit the dogs as the raw material for whatever I may have contributed to the history of the GSD. JUst as I have very good representatives of the breed today, I started off with some excellent dogs (part German--part American) back in 1964. For those of you interested in my contributions, I refer you to the second edition of The German Shepherd Book ( under the heading " Riesenblut", my kennel name-- originally written by the late Susan Barwig, later edited by Brenda Abbott, published by Hoflin).

As for my academic foundation to become a dog trainer, I credit the. then. free (to state residents) secondary public educational systems of the States of Alaska (University of Alaska, Fairbanks for first 3 years of college) and California  (San Francisco State University). At the latter, I received a  BA in Psychology (emphasis on the psychology  and theories of learning). It was at SF State that I first familiarized myself with the studies of Konrad Lorenz and B.F. Skinner (mentor of Karen Pryor). IN 1960, no one ever told me that one does not typically switch schools and change majors in ones senior year of college. Thanks to my parents, I grew up believing that, with tenacity and dedication,  one can achieve whatever goals one sets out to achieve. BTW, I found these learning theories equally applicable to the teaching of technical skills to veterinary students at the VMTH at UC-Davis. BTW, I also appreciate GSDs that are thinkers, tenacious and problem solving. I have learned far more from my dogs than I ever taught them and have modeled my behavior on theirs. So, yes, I'm charcteristically stubborn and persistent to a fault. If at first you don't succeed, try, try again. Just  ask my friends!! Perhaps I"ve learned some of my values from my Scottish forebears ( www.showcaves.com/english/explain/History/Bruce.html

I have never known Louise to contribute to distasteful threads, nor to 'bash' or 'flame' persons. Instead, I have witnessed a vast store of knowledge about the breed, bloodlines, pedigrees, and I love to hear her descriptions of former Champions & their handlers. I love to read Louises' threads. Like Hodie, she is very informative, & not always available. She doesn't suffer fools. Louise is one of the folks whose knowledge I seek. This PDB is supposed to be a place where those of us who do not have an extensive background in the breed can turn for advise. I, personally, wish I did know how to collect semen....I have a gorgeous young male whom I want to leave intact, but my daughter, who he lives with, has decided to neuter him, just because, & I wish I could collect & freeze it, or if that is even a good option. I have heard that frozen semen may not stay viable, & if so, why bother....& are there registration issues if you do manage to sire a litter in that fashion? Louise would be someone who might know the answers to these questions, & many more. I don't like to annoy people I may need to turn to for help, it's foolish!

Hell, I'd rather see a cute non-GSD video than talk/read about me: http://www.wimp.com/oneball/

"If at first you don't succeed, try,try and try again"...... My Scottish wifes favourite saying.
I must agree with Jackie, although I do not know Louise, I certainly have enjoyed reading her posts.
