I bought a GSD from this kennel in Washington state. i was assured the dog would be ok with my cats. the dog killed one of my cats; and the owner kept $3000 of the purchase price. Has anyone else had a bad experience with this kennel. I'd be interested in knowing.

Although I feel for you in the loss of your cat, I don't know how anyone can guarantee something like that or expect something like that for that matter.. That is a management issue in my opinion, I do not specifically breed GSD's who won't kill cats and I'd never make that type of a statement.... there are many other things reside at the top of the list of things we are breeding for... We had a cat for 17 years and one of our girls was a confirmed cat killer but we never left her out alone with him and we always kept an eye on her..

Our dogs are fine with our cats but I would never say they wouldn't kill a cat if the conditions were wrong.

Did you immediately allow free roam of both animals together? There should have been an introduction period where they were kept separate unless closely supervised, just like an introduction of dog to dog. I don't think its fair to smear their kennel name over an issue that cannot really be guaranteed. I don't think they should have made you so comfortable that all would be okay, but rather if the dog has been good with cats, just say so, but advise caution with the introduction to new ones.

Did you return the dog with the agreement you'd get a refund?

Diana, I feel bad for your cat. I would submit that ALL of us pet owners have made mistakes of various magnitudes over time, that we have all learned from. But PLEASE stop blaming the kennel where you bought this dog. At least not until you provide a WHOLE lot more information. How old is the dog? WHAT evidence did they give you about cat testing? WHAT did they advise you in terms of socialization of these two? What steps did YOU take to monitor and supervise this situation between a prey driven animal, and a pet that would be considered "prey potential" for many (most??)breeds of dogs, including GSD's? Since you are implicating this kennel in the death of your cat on MORE THAN ONE popular GSD discussion boards, I hope you will take a responsible step and provide more information. DTW

First of all there is no way you can blame the kennel for the loss of your cat. It is in my own opinion that the dog has high drives for prey. The dog may have only been playing i dont know. But how many dogs like cats anyway ???? NOT MANY so all i have to say is that Kraftwerk is one of the most highly rated breeders in the USA and there can be no complaints from you about your dog killing your cat... please dont take this offencively i just dont agree with kraftwerk being named like a kennel that sells problem dogs. Maybe you need too look into the bloodline history or just give your dog socialisation.

Lewis, Kraftwerk is "one of the most highly rated breeders in the USA" by who?

Diana, I am sorry for the loss of your cat. If you don't mind me asking, why did you go to Kraftwerk kennel to buy a dog and what was the purpose? For the sport or for a pet? Did you get an adult or a puppy? Keep in mind that some working dogs carry very high prey drives that get carried into their puppies. Did the owners of Kraftwerk K9 kennels gave you any instructions (or went to your house to install the dog?) Of how to take care of the dog or puppy? I would have thought that you told them that you have cats. Again I’m sorry for your cat but the kennel nor the dog is at fault.. It’s yours for allowing them both to get contact with each other.
