This is a worthy working line GSD that just happens to have excellent temperament, great lines behind him and is excellent in conformation, and has good joints.  Here is a GSD that showline folks with top producing bitches should consider using.  He should be competitive in any showring if the judges avoid prejudice against black dogs (this has happened in the breed and also for sables too).

I predict this Dog will turn out to be a very good producer.  Congratulations to the owner and breeder.  We need to see more GSDs like this in the breed.  And his dep black pigmenty is impressive.

Wow he certainly is a handsome looking male from this photo. I agree with Prestons comments above, would certainly like know if he is as impressive in reality as his picture depicts. Hope users who know this dog will comment on him. Very nice indeed!!!

What an impressive dog. (I personally have a prejudice TOWARDS black :)

He looks like a GSD that has it all. I agree Preston, those considering show/working breedings should take a look at this fellow and what he has to offer. Would love to see a video of him working. I respect your knowledge, and so your prediction that he will be a good producer sits well with me too. I do hope he is, we could certainly do with more like him in the breed.

Wouldn't it be great if we could simply do away with colour prejudice/preference and simply look at the overall dog?

www.pedigreedatabase.com/german_shepherd_dog/pedigree/600966.html  - V rated by SV judge, 9th place at FCI Championship this year, will be competing at WUSV next week, produces well - puppies with strong nerves, high drives and nice comformation. His owner is Jozef Adamuščin, breeder and former handler of Ozzy Barnero, he handled him at WUSV 2007 where Ozzy took 7th place. He also has Faro´s son www.pedigreedatabase.com/german_shepherd_dog/pedigree/673195.html who also has nice comformation and is showing to be a very perspective working dog.

Very very nice - looking at his pedigree page the first dog that caught my eye was Brix & lo & behold he is line bred on... Bernd Lierberg.

Preston , without trying to doubt your assertion, why would this dog be classified as working line? To me it just looks to be a seriously well bred GSD with thoughtful consideration given to the qualities that both W/L & S/L can bring - no common ancestry in 5 generations says it all.

AandA, what do you consider "linebred on Bernd Lierberg"? You somewhat confused me because you say the dog is linebred, then you say he has no common ancestry in 5 generations.

The dog is working line because he was bred from working line dogs. Interestingly, some G rated dogs. Just goes to show that if you know what you're doing and what your dogs produce, you CAN produce better than the parents themselves.

My only issue w/this dog would be all the noch zugelassen hips in the background, but that concern would go out the window if I saw he was producing good hips. The hip status of the parents is not necessarily indicative of the progeny's hip status.

And this picture really makes me wish I could stack a dog properly. Can't help but wonder what my darling would look like stacked....

jenni,

Interesting to note though (I just checked) the dogs' ZW is 74!!!

So according to the SV scheme there is little heredity problem; and furthermore it is advised that any ZW below 75 can be used for improvement in this area.

Bazza,

I agree with you, since many pictures look very good and indeed many dogs look extremely well constructed (even show line) and in do so in real life (as oposed to a picture)  at STAND; the proof of construction is in movement and time and again it is observed that a dog may look EXCELLENT in STAND but falls apart in movement especially over pro-longed gateing.

A real Shepherd Dog must not only exhibit courage, fighting instinct and a balanced character (without extemes) BUT AS IMPORTANTLY; have the physical construction TO COVER GROUND EFFORTLESSLY and HARMONIOUSLY, so as NOT TO WASTE -vitally important - energy - requirment for a 'working dog'

Jenni, I meant that Brix (www.pedigreedatabase.com/german_shepherd_dog/pedigree/15615.html) his maternal grand sire is linebred on Bernd.

I can also see many other V and VA rated dogs that would also be described as showline e.g. Herzog von Adeloga - grand sire quanto, Anderl vom kleinen Pfahl - sire Mutz - admittedly these dogs are from way back at about the time of the split but are still considered as showline.

Perhaps I was trying to be hopeful and not try to catergorise this particular dog as this line or that line but just as a very well bred "GSD line".
