Does anyone own a Dog that will not be combed and brushed,
Izzy Bitch is the apt name for her, She will not have a comb or brush laid on her, She goes like a coiled Spring if you try and groom her makes no sound but just Snaps back at the Item you are holding.
She has been this way since she was 10  weeks old if you tried then to give her a light brush she would snap at the brush whipping her head around at it, 18 months old now and still the same,
You can run your hands all over her  no problem, put a brush and comb on her she will not have it
Someone suggested a muzzle but i will not go that far I have no wish to lose the Rapor i have with her by doing that and she would i expect get really agitated
Saying that she always looks great and clean but a brush would stimulate the skin, But at this time you would be minus a hand if you try too hard

I would suggest a gooming glove.  I don't know how well they work, but it's got to be bettter than not at all.  That way, she would just think you're petting her, no bristles or prongs.  You could get two gloves and just pet her all over with both.

As to why, the only thing I can think is that she's a little sensative, maybe ticklish?  Drake allows me to groom him anywhere, but he does resist a bit when I do his hind end, under his tail.  I ignore him and make him stand still, but he's never snapped.  I do always promise him that I will be gentle near his testicles.

Steve:  My Arkane doesn't like it  either, though not to the extent of Izzy. He grumbles and grabs the brush hand, but  doesn't bite, just wants the brush away from him.  He doesn't like to be brushed, isn't interested in being scratched, (probably because he's not itchy   )  .  He shows his distaste by moving his body away.   He does enjoy a good solid pounding kind of pats, on the ribcage, or chest, as we sometimes do when we reward our dogs.  It doesn't bother me, I've never done much brushing on my dogs anyway, use my hands more.  Those few times when he needs to be brushed he will now stand for it but clearly doesn't like it.

He's just not a touchy feely kind of a guy, DEFINITELY not a dog that wants to be cuddled.

Hear ya, Steve. My boy was like that. Now he is tied to the fence and has a ball in his mouth he crushes like bone while brushing. He still twists at times or lays down, but at least he is not after the rake. However I can not have any dogs around him while doing so as he will go off on them in his frustration. Nails are still a nightmare and he is getting stronger (19 mo). How you do Izzys nails?

Izzy Is Ball mad But if i give her one as soon as i try and Groom her she drops it and goes for the Brush or Rake as soon as it touches her, She is like a coiled Spring, any other time if she has her 4''cong which i train obed with you can never get it off her.
Her ears go back and her eyes glare at you, Fortunatly she does release the Sleeve on command
Still what can we expect she is after all a Female

I like that Steve..."It's a Female thing"...Perfect!
Anyways...How does Izzy react if you use your fingers like a brush and you rake them though her coat?
I guess you have to start from the very beginning and that is to do something...play a little ball...feed her or something and have the brush in your hand or nearby and maybe she'll get more used to it just being around...then what I have to do with some dogs to begin with...Just touch the dog with the brush...Nothing much...just a touch...then each time try a little more...Like one short stroke on her...then play ball..or feed...

What does Izzy do when she just sees the brush?

Even if they do not like something like grooming or nail trimming, they are not allowed to refuse.  My dogs are my companions, friends, pets, and we work together.  They are not allowed to be boss by refusing to behave for something like being groomed.  Yes, Abram wears a muzzle for nail trims, he has ticklish toes and does not like having them messed with.  It does not affect how we get along, which is just fine thank you very much. That is JMO.

I'm with animules on that. Regardless of the dog they should allow you to do grooming, nails trimmed, etc.  A couple of mine didn't like it as puppies, but I didn't tolerate that.  I made them get use to it. Now they don't mind at all, and Buck especially likes it. He'd even let you put a vacuum hose to him and move it along lol. He'll sit there for however long you want him to, very patient, letting you brush and groom him. And he just turned two a few days ago.

I cannot agree with some on here, when it comes down to Obed then yes, But she has never liked it from a 10 week old Pup and i did it very nearly every day, and a couple of times a week since those days.
She is intent on getting what you have in your hand to stop you. Dogs must be behaved for a better word and in every other thing she is great except grooming, Remember every thing has its own character and that must never be broken for that is the Dog.
As for nail trimming, I have never had to trim a Dogs nails in 60 years of owning them,
Because all the Dog Pens i owned have Concrete Bases and the Dogs are walked on the Road or Paths every day, they keep the nails down naturally
I could of course Muzzle her but that will serve no useful purpose, She stays in good condition but a good brush every now and then would freshen her up i guess it is no big deal just wondered who else had a dog with the same trait
As for running my hands through her coat no problem doing that
Someone mentioned a Glove. Yes, if you have it on before you leash her up otherwise you will never get it on your hand before she gets hold of it. anything she sees she must have, even takes the cover off the Outside Tap as she goes by without  breaking stride which is there to protect it from freezing, She is in fact like a Bloody Whirlwind at home,
Get her outside the Gate tell her to foot and she is a different Dog, Head up and away.Same on the work field on Obed

Sorry Steve, I just think you SHOULD be able to brush your own dog without her biting the brush, whether you say that's her character or not. I do realize a lot of the drivey dogs especially, will go after certain tools, but I prefer to be able to brush my dog if needed.  It's weird, if I had made this same post, others probably would have come on here and said my dog had temperament issues.
