What do you consider a large price?

To breed them correctly, it costs A LOT. Training, titling, xrays, registration, submission of xrays, entry fees, handler fees, gas, hotel, time off work, stud fees, vet fees, organization dues...

I do not think a puppy should be $3,500-5,000 like some breeders sell them. It's outrageous. But you won't find a correctly bred, quality dog for $500, either.

People around here think $350 is a lot for a puppy.  What do you consider a lot for a puppy? If you're looking for a good working puppy whose parents are titled, have had health tests, x rays, etc then $1,000-$1,800 seems reasonable.

Look at all the stupid adds on here for dogs from untitled untested parents , especially Czech or DDR blood that people ask huge prices for that has many generations of untitled un tested dogs in the pedigree . IT is a joke, plain and simple.......In Europe they laugh at us all the way to the bank. If you only knew what they charge each other for pups and dogs you would crap all over yourself. I have been there many many time and seen and listen to them deal and its like a Belgium guy once told me if you give an American a good deal on a pup for a normal price he will think something is wrong with it.They want to pay big money so they can brag about it.  There are many good clubs here in the states that have good pups for sale for good prices from titled tested parents...Pay what you want if it makes you happy to pay $1800 for a $500 pup then by all means do it and be happy....

W4DEE they cost that much because we are willing to pay that much , just simple economics stop paying the prices they will come down the same as with any commodity

I am happy to have learned alot in the last six years with the breed. My most expensive is my worst conformationally as she matured and full of skin allergies and had cancer.... The Puppy I paid the least for is turning out fantastic!! The price difference of 2400 between those two pups.

     I still say you cannot shop by price. It takes raport with a good breeder and the right lines. I will pay whatever for the right pup.

We had another thread @ 1-2 mos ago on the same subject. W4DEE when you put the question like you did, did you pay an outrageous price? What was the amount? And if you didn't then what is all the fuss over someone else spending their money how they choose to???

As KC asked, what do you consider a large price. Let's start from there.

Guys, Contrary to the "workingdog" belief in the GSD, a vast majority of GSDs sit all-day in kennels, except for occational walks even in it's home country. Now what would a GSD in city-center got to do with farm works, tittles in tracking etc? Not everyone agrees that GSDs be used for protection. A breeder once asked me to "NOTE" that dogs purchased from it's kennels are not used for "security" or left "outside". I think "obedience titles(excluding tracking should not be compulsory)" and "good citizenship" should be instead encouraged in dogs. Many GSD owners today do not own,will never own or be at and can never own a farm, not even owning up to 2 plots of land for GSD play. With these addressed, i think the price of GSDs wil be reduced. I don't think that prices don't always reflect the quality of the puppy or dog....I have seen really nice dogs and puppies priced on the lower end and than I have seen some not so nice quality outrageously priced....But it really is the opinion of the person buying and what he is willing to pay for the quality he wants...JMO
