HBI'm sure you are "God's gift to the German Shepherd breed"by your lovely attitude.

HB Gods Gift to the breed? Compared to you LisaGSDHtr, I AM certain of it! Has it ever crossed your mind how sensible the 4yr old bitch may be, with all the barking done by your other dogs what need for her to join in? lol Ssshhhh..........how much is that doggy in the garage, woof, woof, the one with the waggerly tail.....

Lisa, this male was also with a group of barking dogs... You know everyone wants to just be hatefull. I really don't see the need to degrate everyone when they post something. what is the point of this site anyway, to learn. Why can't we just assume the person posting is doing things right instead of assuming that they are doing wrong. Answer the question and not get hatefull. If you have nothing to add then move on. I also crate my dogs, and rotate them into the yard and house. Does this mean that I am a bad person or breeder...I also hated a dogs behavior befor. I would assume that these dogs are not living in the crate, but are rotated out into the yard and house to play. Better that then living in a 6x10 dog run. Lisa.... Taking the dog out and training has made a huge difference in his behavior. I have had dogs that i have bought as adults, that stress when the first get here, but within 60 days I do see the real behavior of the dog. I have a couple adult females tht have thier SCH titles that I had imported that bark but would let anyone in the house. The female that I was talking about earlier, is the one dog that I know would eat someone alive if they broke into my home, but is also very good with kids, and fine with people that i introduce her to. She is a great girl now. I did get her at 6 months of age, after she had lived with an elderly couple who had no business owning this type of dog....they needed a couch potato...she came to me so out of control it was very hard to live with...point being she has not produced herself. She is very high working dive...(she is 1/2show and 1/2 working) but has produce pups that have nice drives but are very easily controled, very fun to train. I have also been very carfull about how she is bred. going more with show lines, and not working lines. We have pups out of her that are doing AKC obedience, schutzhund, and herding, and agiltiy. very nice kids. But we also have pups that are great pets, protecting, but not over protective....oh by the way she is not a barker....she will bark a couple times, to alert but then will dare them to come closer...funny girl. I do like that about her, because I have other dogs that will bark at everything. And I hate that more than the one that doesn't bark. What kind of training has this girl had? What are you wanting to do with her other than breed...she might be a great herding dog, you really don't want one to be a big barker there, as it will scare the sheep. Heather

Heather, you are right on the money. We seem to be doing things pretty much the same with our dogs.Everyone enjoys their turn in the garage and will bark, even my newest five month old showline male. But she is just as meek as can be when it comes to her turn.Thankfully there are GSD forums with much nicer people.I just thought I would post here because everyone seems more knowledgeable and professional.I'm glad there's someone out there who isn't making me feel like a heel.Thanks.Anyways,this girl is fully ob trained and I mean responds at the drop of a dime, only with me.She is so loyal and has no bad habits, unlike the others and this is why this behavior bothers me.She is perfect in every other way.I would love to do Schutzhund with her if I only had the time(three boys ages3,8, and 11)make it nearly impossible right now but I have plans for a puppy out of her in the future to pursue those dreams.Hope you get to read this. Thanks again to all who have good intentions to help.

Please god LisaG do not do Schutzhund training with any of your dogs. you have failed to apreciate that your 4 yr old bitch is guarding her patch - the crate and nowhere else because you have not spent the time and energy needed to home her with you. by your own addmission you have a lot on - kids dogs etc. Schutzhund requires some knowlege of dog behaviour and training ability, plus the ablility to take responiblity for your dogs actions.

My most trained and experienced dog I got a year ago, he was 5 years old. He barks the least in my house (3 GSD's), but is the most likely to defend our family if necessary. I suppose he figures the others do it for him, lol, or he's just that clear in the head to recognize a real threat. The others will bark at the drop of a pin, raising the dead any time someone makes a peep upstairs or there's a doorbell sound in a commercial (I'll never buy Domino's pizza again, lol). Take care, Melanie

Lisa, boy I get the being busy. I have a son, ranch, sheep horses, and dogs. I am also a single mom. and run a dog training business. I am not saying that I train my dogs every day..actually this male is only doing his protection right now, I did alot of obedience with him when he was young, and that is why he is so into me and looking at me for direction. I am willing to take the time to work through this, I want a dog that will listen, so we always start out with obedience..pisses off the helper sometimes, but he knows I am dedicated and deals with me well, bless his heart.lol. I have been dragging my son to training for years now...I bribe him with food, money, toys ect. lol...he will hang out in the van and play his games/video, or read or hang out with us. I always bring a bag of food, and things to keep him busy. I have a great group of people that I train with and they like him alot. He is a good kid. He is now 13 and can stay home. I have even seen parents hire a sitter to come out and hang with the kids when they are training, or you could pay the older one to watch the younger ones. just a thought. I put off training for to long, it is easy to make excuses. now I just put it in the schedual and treat it like a training dog(one that i am working for someone else). I have also learned alot from the other people at the club. And it helps with selling my puppies to working homes later on. Now I have had my share of bad advise and bad club memebers or helpers. But it is so good when you find the right match!! Heather

My first GSD never barked at anyone but he did try to take down a man who threatened me with a knife. I would never count out a quiet dog; still waters run deep.
