If you check with the Europeans on trainers/ progressive trainers it would be Johnny Degens, Gert and Rony..the team of Gert and Johnny could not be beat for knowledge they are mot as commerical as some of the above is maybe why no one listed them. They are asked to do seminars for the big kennels in Europe and problem solving for them. We plan to have Johnny and Gert back or if Lorenzo wants to co-sponser together we would consider this. The club these guys belong too have a two year apprentice and the record at the WUSV speaks for itself the most wiiing trainers in the world come from that club. No tapes, No promo, No hype, but by far the most talented trainers in the world.

Co-sponsoring or even coordinating a "tour" of a few clubs! Great idea. Might be more attractive to some of these people, and splitting expenses up might make it easier on the individual clubs.

LaPorte, yes it is expensive I paid 1,000 just for airline tickets for Johnny but what we learned was amazing and I have been to so many seminars and have sent my trainers to a ton not cheap and the main complaint the same things the basic was gone over a waste of time. I would recommend these two johnny and Gert to be for the experienced handlers to grasp what they are teaching for sure and not a beginning person. I am open no matter were it is I will support whoever hosts this maybe several of us could Molly, Lorenzo, LaPorte let me know to watch them re work a dog we have struggled with in a matter of minutes was unreal and some of the new things the do even with the retrieve was something we never saw before. They have four people in the blind when they work a dog I never saw this before but the attention to details was incredible. We are lucky over here to have two people in the blind they have such a advantage to no shortage of helpers/trainers. The one thing I liked with them is they never quit working if a dog had a problem or the handler they made sure is was resolved and even went back over it again when the first round was done to make sure it was clear. Very hands on training not a lot of speeches just worked the dogs aling explaining the whole time. Marlene

The seminars cost can get up there. Tickets may cost on a low end of $500 roundtrip for some within the US up to $1,500 coming from Europe. Then you have the cost to pay for the seminar which can run about $2,000 - $3,000 just for a 3 day seminar. So lining up these folks can be nerve wrecking when "super handlers" think they are above the mentors and "super training directors" prevent their club members from attending seminars where it will become evident that there training is not so great after all. LOL Also I didn't include hotel accomodations and food for these folks. So I feel sorry for folks that go through all the work to bring folks like Raiser and Flinks here and have to shell a lot "out of pocket" to finish paying for everything. That's why it's good to put "feelers" out there and see who people want vs. who they may need. LOL The demand has to be there. The folks also have to get off their a%% and realize that those 80 point obedience routines may get better if they simply "tweaked" their training program. The biggest objection I hear is " I don't want to attend. I don't want to change my training style" It's not changing your training style completely. It may mean simply "tweaking" it a little or seeing something you may be doing wrong with your existing training program. I think even Bernard Flinks mentioned "tweaking" his program some after a recent visit to Ivan. See!!! Even the real "super trainers" can learn something new. :-)

Tristate and K-9 Helser. I think the question was who would you have for seminar for the sport. I'm sure both of you may have good things to add to a seminar? I don't know either one of you so I won't speculate. I always judge a person after seeing them and their dogs in person Competition field, seminar, etc. But I will have to say the person doing the helper work with a gun on his side, I hope it is just a fake gun. Because if it is real and loaded...well....not the brightest thing to do while doing helper work. In my years past with working Police K-9 we always put a priority on Helper/Handler/Dog safety. Also the dog on that video could NEVER be deployed as a Police dog, seeing how it's stressed in the bite work the first PCP suspect it has to deal with coming at it, that dog will be long gone LOL. The training for k9 and handlers here in the states is nowhere near as it is in the European countries. And I must say in some of the states it's a complete disaster, freak'n joke. And unfortunatly many K9 departments suffer because of the inexperienced vendors they deal with. Another problem many k9 units fail to continue in the Dept. And worst of all, it is putting the officer safety at risk because these vendors don't have a clue re: Police K9. Now if we are talking about seminars for POLICE I would recommend Kevin Sheldahl, Wendal Nope, Brad Smith of West Covina P.D. or my friend Rodney Spicer one of the better k9 Trainers on the west coast.
