GSD Admin (admin)

by GSD Admin on 05 October 2011 - 02:10

We have decided to give show line and working line people their own forums. If this does not work out we will combine these forums back into the GSD forum.

Please use those forums accordingly and use the GSD forum as more of a general GSD forum.

Does this mean the GSD specific posts won't be in the "All Breeds (General)" forum, but one of the 3 GSD specific forums?

Hi, Malndobe!

To answer your question, any general dog related information can be posted in the "General" section, regardless of breed.

Ex: sharing pictures, health, diet, ect. . .  , ,,,fectff

Glad to see this.

I'm not sure I like this idea, I am not keen on anything that encourages the SL/WL split even more. I always live in hope that although there is a gulf between the two there are occasions when maybe there is something that comes out in conversation which is useful to the other, or makes them think a little differently.  Maybe I am just an idealist.

I also like the 'pick 'n' mix' flavour of the combined board, where I can pick out a WL thread that looks interesting, or something general, or SL related from one list. Interesting to see how it works out.

Can you add the "latest posts" button to the main page? I agree 3 GSD forums is a bit much for the number of daily posts. I'm too lazy to have to search 5 or 6 forums to find an interesting topic. Can we also have a SL Malinois forum? I'm thinking of getting a SL Malinois. Why not just make it an all breed SL topic area for people into conformation and showing? Why single out the GSD people any more. When they need training advice they are going to go to the WL forum anyway.

Ditto all what Aby Normal said, why does everybody assume that a GSD enthusiast is either a show or work? I am neither show nor work sided, I love both the work and show and I don't think I can only be either one. Too many forums might not be the best idea, more splitting of the GSD might not be the best direction for the PDB.

BAD idea. First off, not everyone would classify workinglines and showlines the same way. And where do I post for my dog that is 1/2WL-1/2SL? Some consider DDR dogs to be WL's, but I have my doubts. Do we next need "czech line" and "german line" sections? Then there's "Czech SL's" & "Czech WL's". Why is there now a section on Training, but not one for Breeding?  Like other's mentioned, I don't like having to sort through multiple categories already.

I agree that it's a bad idea, there shouldn't be that much of a split.  Besides, I find both topics interesting and don't want to search that many pages.

Edited to add:
I also believe this site is becoming TOO politically correct and this is another symptom.

I have a different take on this than Abby and Ibrahim; sadly not all here are as liberal as they in their thinking about the breed as a whole.  If that were the case, I'd be the last to argue the merits of these 2 new forums. Those who own both showlines and working lines will have valuable input to offer to either and/or both forums.

This "split"  gives posters the opportunity to ask a question or offer help to those with similar interests and bloodlines. I've often read threads from showline owners asking for recommendations on one thing or another that were answered with meanspirited retorts that suggested showlines can't work, why bother, get a real dog, and so forth? Responses like that will now be off topic and could be reported to the mods.

I think the 2 forums can be beneficial and are at least worth a try; if they are not used as intended, then Oli may reconsider.
