Can you explain what you mean when you say " their correct, but not what the judges are used to.The dogs stick out like a sore thumb, and not in a good way".

Does that mean that our ZVV1 who beat out the top winning bitch in Canada last year was judged by someone who did not know what he/she was looking at?

Kim,
What I'm saying is that judges are SO used to seeing dogs of a certain type (and I am an AKC exhibitor, so Blitzen is correct, that is partially what I'm referencing), that to see a sable working line dogs that does not have the angles the American dogs do makes the dog stick out (I am proud to say that color is pretty immaterial in the AKC ring).

The working line dog deviates from the style of dog they are used to, and so the judge sees that dog and mentally says "incorrect" and there you find yourself at the back of the line.

Congratulations on your win over the top bitch, by the way :)  That's a judge that was judging dogs by the standard instead of by politics.

I seriously doubt that he is of the mind that superangulation makes for a more correct dog.

I'm not of that mind, either.  I appreciate good angles in a dog, but don't like overdone.

Just wanted to add that no I don't think Carmen is of that mindset either. If you look at the dogs he has bred they are very nice. Here is an example.

I like this dog very much and he also has a nice pedigree==also I call him Carmen because he is a good friend of my mentor's and that's how I was instructed to speak to him...........

*whistles* Nice dog.  My type too.  I like low stationed animals, good substance, excellent bone.  I'd like a bit less rear.  Nice front.

Who is the dog?

Xeph, his name is Ch Van Cleves Dashiell Hammett TC OFA H&E--he is basically linebred on Dallas.  I may breed my Mauli girl to him this coming spring. Have to wait and see cause we also have something else we are looking at.

Oh yeah and his call name is Dash...........

Von, he is a very nice dog. He reminds me of Dallas, I loved that dog.

I, myself, am still learning the "differences" associated with GSDs. In my short time here there are/were individuals I really enjoyed listening to/reading from.

I believe the last show, Westminster, (and I hope I am right in order for you to visualize my example) I couldn't understand the selection of GSDs. I believe the winner, When walking, (? gaiting?) was so LOW to the ground it appeared as if it was walking/dragging/sliding. Now my intentions are not to be mean but gathering information. If I remember correctly he/she was a pretty big Shepherd (or appeared) and looked almost as if the feet/legs were just not strong enough to hold the body up? Hopefully, I'm making sense.

And even though I am an animal lover and I love a dog that can work I was just wondering how productive that dog or body or set up could really work. Or if he/she was "THERE" for just those "minutes of fame"?

And I do hope I am explaining the right show.

And by the way, Vonissk! By no means am I a judge but my prefence; Dash is BEAUTIFUL! Almost exactly what I picture as a GSD. For me his waist is a little thick but nice neck, broad shoulders, nice chest, a heaviness/solidness about his body, powerful looking legs. S T R E N G T H !  N O B I L I T Y !
