Fact is American have no say, they too have good dogs that go to waste because most lack the knowledge of chosing a good pup. They don't know how to start. First get knowledge of the breed, go to shows, get good dogs and compete, have fun. Americans are too much for the money and power and not the love.

Olga, Ceddy, well put. If the same logic was applied by people outside the US then Americans would be using their expensive GSD imports for target practise because they're such a gun happy bunch. Or, if you send a dog to the US it will probably end up in one of their Kill Shelters. Or if you want to pick a different country then the UK recently started killing all their retired K9s... Don't be so quick to lump everything together. What may apply to some will never apply to all. There are enough people in the US and any other country that make you cringe when you see how they keep their animals. Lots of ignorance too when it comes to caring for dogs. That is always just one side of the story. The other side never makes for good press so we won't hear about that. Just the cost to ship one GSD to China is more than the average Chinese makes in a couple of month. If someone has that much to spare, they have enough to spare to make sure their dogs will stay safe. Aside from that it has never been enough to just buy an expensive dog in order to place well in the top shows. You also need to maintain that dog, in terms of conditioning, ring training and protection training. If that sort of infrastructure is not given where the dogs have been exported to, then a return of the dog for a top show will never yield the results the owners may hope for. If they wanted to have a chance at a top spot they need to keep the dog in Germany for several months with the right trainer and handler. Now why would someone want to do that if they bought to dog to use at stud at their kennel? And to be shown in their own country? Or maybe they just bought themselves a trophy dog that never has to do anything else than lounge around and make their owner proud, like so many US owners do. Many of the dogs are bought after their show carreer in Germany is pretty much over. Self explanatory. Dogs from China are most likely not showing up outside of China because most countries have restrictions on allowing entry to adult dogs from an area that has had recent Rabies cases.

Well then why don't you guys just keep on selling dogs to China. I really don't know what more you need to convince you that it might not be the greatest idea. Didn't you see the video of the GSD being skinned alive for it's pelt? Yeah, there are plenty of good people in that country, but until there are some sort of animal rights promulgated and enforced, no dog is safe. According to what I read on this board, there will be no shortages of GSD in China. Keep up the good work.

Blitzen, Brittany, when you look at that video (different site that was put on here before) and those photos from the same piece... don't you find it curious that this 'killing station' for dogs shows fresh blood of only a single dog? In previously untouched snow. Bits of snow. Not loads of new snow that covered up old traces of previous killings. And what a coincidence, its a GSD type that most Westerners can make an emotional association with. I have a publishing, film and PR background. Does not take a genius to see that this story was tweaked and set up nicely for effect. Very media worthy. If you look and question what you see that is. We are so used to being fed all sort of images that the questions often never come up. If this was how dogs were killed there all the time, they would have started in a pool of blood. At the very least, there would be old blood from previous killings. None of which is there. Not even remotely. The fellow is not in his killing grubbies either. Spotless pants. Not a drop of blood on them. And realistically - any hunter or butcher that does what they are doing regularly would not want to deal with the hassle of a squirming dying dog but kill it much quicker to get the job done. That particular piece, these photos - are a bunch of garbage and the people that set it up that way should be held accountable. Not the first time animal activists have done that to serve their purpose. I have seen underground pieces where hidden cameras show some of the more realistic stuff. Grubby bloody places with grubby bloody people doing their work swiftly and without much emotion like any other worker in any other slaughterhouse in the western world that kill the animals we eat so thoughtlessly. Not the show piece like that where fresh blood in fresh snow makes for a great effect. Fresh blood on top of brown dried blood just is not nearly as effective. Every documentary is scripted. Not the dialogue, but the outline, with 3 acts like any other piece of film that you get fed all the time. It has a beginning, middle and end. No budget without that script. No money for travel to China without a script. Every ad is set up that way. Every short, every documentary. I could go to any ghetto in the US and put some money on the table, or sometimes a dare to some young fellow would be enough to let me film something like that. Right in your own backyard. There is little respect for human life why do you think they should have any for a dogs life? If you eat meat, feed your dogs meat, you are responsible for killing animals. In the end it really makes no difference if a bull is taken apart while its still alive or a dog. If you say it is, then you have no respect for any creature, as they all feel that pain the same. Be it a hog, or chickens, or a cow, or lambs, or whatever else we put on our plates. We are no different than the Chinese. The ones that put such a Snub Video together, so neatly and nicely 'set-up' in the Virgin Snow with not a Specle of Blood anywhere else are the ones that you should be angry with. Because putting that 'in scene' is absolutely distgusting.

Oh it's all a lie? I am so heppy to hear that. I'll be sure to tell Larry King next time I see him.

BTW anyone wanting to read up on this so-called hoax has only to Google "dogs for fur". You be the judge............

This is about the most ignorant thread as i have seen in a while. Not to my surprise, certain people on this thread jumped on it. I live in Texas and in great ol TX, there are certain parts that do/would not accept me. Does that mean TX is a worthless state or does that mean that the US is a worhless place? It is easy to point fingers at the chinese and blame them for not having animal protection. Everyday in the US is a pit bull fight going on. So much for animal protection. Everyday in the US is some kind of racial discrimination, so much for my human rights. So, it is really irritatrin to see people write about the "Chinese eating dogs". B/S. Then we talk down about them. How about the look you give me when I drive into your neighborhood in a car that you cannot afford. How about the questions I am asked by the police when i get pulled over in the US? "Is this your car? How did you pay for it?"... So before we go out and condemn the chinese for what they did to those poor dog, condemn yourselves for what you are doing to people in the US and other parts of the so-called western world. There is a strong correlation between the comments made and level of education. Before you post an illiterate comment again, try to think, or call someone who has the ability to think about the ramifications of your words, if you cannot figure it out. -Shak

I find it funny how china has all the money in the world to buy theses expensive VA dogs but can’t manage to control the rapid rabies in its county... not to mention other diseases (SARs, etc) that come along! I’m so happy that the USA was the first county to respond to this massacre! I’m so proud of The Humane Society of the United States for offering $100,000 to the government of China to put to the end of the massive slaughter of thousands of dogs (probably 97 of them were 100% healthy) I did not watch the video of the Chinese slaughtering the German shepherds on Larry king live and do not want to see it either. I do not have the strong stomach to observe such obscene. I’m a GSD lover… I can’t stand seeing my breed get slaughtered just because they have a pretty coat… and that some rich mother fucker thinking that it will “cool” to show off how rich they’re by wearing a GSD or any other species of animals for that matters coat. Rikah-haus, as horrible pit bull fighting may look and seem… I respectfully think that what’s going on in china are much severe than pit-bull fights. I suggest that you visit http://www.furisdead.com/ and view some of the videos that it has on there.

I wonder how there is so much money in the US and we still have homeless people.

Brittany

by Brittany on 06 September 2006 - 02:09

Rikah-haus, People become homeless because they do not work hard enough or busy making government babies and expecting the US government to give them checks every month. The only people that I have truly show sympathy are those who are mentally incompetent (or have severe mental problems that causes them to not hold down a job) and those who are physically disabled (that causes them to not hold down a job due to pain, etc)
