I have to ask. Why are you breeding two dogs that have not had their OFA HD and ED completed? Having xrays done and having the certification done is two different things. Isn't the whole point of improving the breed to have documentation to prove the dogs are worthy of breeding and passing on their genetics? What have these dogs done to be worthy of breeding? Any working titles? Schutzhund, SAR, herding, agility, anything?

That is a good question, animules! Because the parents had good hips and the off spring of them appears to be in "excellent condition", you can't just dismiss HD/ED. I have a 16 month old that I took back 8 months ago(and gave the family a full refund, with the option to keep the dog, as well) and on a scale of 1-10, she barely gets a 10. Both her parents were "a-stamped", a-1 Normal. You can't assume when it comes to breeding these animals, you have to "know", for certain, and even then there is no guarentee all will come out as planned.

animules, What a great question! I was about to ask before coming down to your post :) No offense Krista... are you breeding a Golden Retriever to a German Shepherd? I hope the god you're not. According to your website (searched on google) you own no German Shepherds.

My male has been done, I am awaiting the results. No, for gods sake, I am not crossing a Shepherd and a Golden...I don't know the outcome of something like that, besides, with markings mixed with straight color, what it would look like ect...In previous posts, I had mentioned I was purchasing a GSD, I don't have one yet, but have owned several. I have only had my male checked, and am anxiously awaiting the results. The female I do NOT own, nor did I know the owners before they contacted me. I noticed none of you mentioned that my male had his Heart, Eye's, DNA, OR Brucellosis test done. With a Golden Retriever, a Hip and Elbow x-ray aren't the only things you need. As far as titles, Goldens, esspecially mine, probably couldn't earn a Schh, nor would I want one too, very poor sign of the breed. My male is currently going for his CGC (Canine Good Citizen) title, and after that, I plan on getting his full therepy lisence. About the Heart clearance, he recieved that on this friday, it has not yet been added to my website, nor to the OFA's, he was simply cleared for it on friday. Well, thank you to those that provided information, we shall see if it works, and Bob-O, GSDlvr2, DKiah, I'll let you guys know how it goes, as I am hoping to try some of the ideas with which I was contacted personally. Thanks again all!!! Krista

Scratch my previous comments, I thought we were talking German Shepherds here. That's what I get for assuming.

SGBH, Sorry, I should've been specific. Good news all, they are bringing her over Tuesday, tomorrow, and we are having a Progesterone test done on her, so she will be staying with us a few days. Thanks again for all of the help, Krista blueskyekennels@msn.com

Golden retrievers have a high incidence of hip dysplasia, so they should have their OFA certification before being bred. You say he has been bred three times already. You can choose what bitch your male is being bred to and you can be picky enough to ensure certification from her. You are responsible for the puppies being put into the world as well as the owner of the bitch and you might not want your stud dog's name attached to a female without her certifications, depending on what she produces. There are also titles that golden retrievers can obtain as well; hunting and showing, to make sure they are great respresentatives of their breed.

This is the most confusing thread I've ever read! LOL. As a matter of fact if I had known it was about Goldens, I wouldn't have bothered. BTW, Goldens should be OFA'd too, IMO.

Just read Changer's post. The male has been bred THREE times already & not OFA'd yet! Bluesky, I know you said that but it didn't hit me at the time. I agree with everything Changer said.
