Now, Now! Leerburg and Alabama k9 not to sure about that. Eichenluft and Patiala in United States would be my pick.

I don’t normally respond to many posts, but in my opinion is that it is far less difficult to breed top working dogs than it is to find top working handlers. Everybody wants a guaranteed world champion at 8 weeks old, but not so many handlers can make a world champion. We have bred two dogs that have been selected to go to the world championships. One was Dax van Meerhout and was Dave Kroyer's first Schutzhund dog and he was one time a participant and another time alternate. The other was Grim van Meerhout with Richard Atkins who was 3rd at the North American Championships and one time alternate for the F.C.I. championship. These individuals are super handlers that could bring out the full potential in these dogs. Our stud dog Ugo vom Burenswald had four dogs at this years USA National championship and three were from the same litter. I think there are many decent breeders out there that need good handlers for their dogs. Just my 2 cents. Rob Dunn www.vanmeerhoutshepherds.com

I agree 100% with Rob, there are many more very nice working prospects that simply don't have handlers to take them where they could go. Thanks for the very nice comments, I appreciate them. molly eichenluft working german shepherds http://workinggermanshepherd.com

My dog Arek had 5 sons at the USA nationals, three from the same breeding. Keep in mind that the current litter is our L-litter (12th breeding) and some of our dogs are very young. Ajay Singh

Thank you Ajay & Molly. It is very easy to overlook some good kennels here in the states. Keep up the good work. I wish you and all your up and coming dogs the best of luck.

Sirk9 writes: I don’t normally respond to many posts... LOL! I don't blame you, this is basically the "Jerry Springer" board of the GSD world. :-) But glad you did. Excellent point. Placing the right dog in the right home is a breeder's most important job. And directly related to level of success any dog will achieve. There are many, many good dogs out there that never reach their potential - not because of the dog, but because of inadequate training. In fact, I don't think there is a shortage of great dogs bred in the US... but there may a shortage of great dog trainers/handlers in the US. Plus we are much more spread out here in the US. The concentration of good dogs, trainers and handlers is so much greater in Europe simply because of geography. That's not to say they are "better" trainers, there is just more of them per sq. mile. Heck you drive past 10 clubs in 10 minutes! Here in the US you are lucky to have 1 club with a two hour driving distance. BTW-Sirk9 is an excellent trainer/handler and all around good guy. Plus he has an excellent dog. Congrats on all of your achievements. You are an excellent ambassador for schutzhund and your dog is an excellent ambassador for the breed. Another good point that Ajay made deals with %. Let's say I am at the range with my buddy and we are shooting targets. And lets say I hit the bull's-eye 15 times, but he hit the target 30 times. Who is a better shot??? Well at first it would seem like my buddy, but I only fired 25 shots, whereas he fired 100 shots... So it is very important to keep everything in perspective. And... just because someone buys a couple of titled dogs and breeds them... it does not make them a breeder. IMHO it is also important for a good breeder to work and title working dogs. Sounds obvious, but there are many breeders out there breeding a lot of dogs who have never raised and trained a working dog. So the real kudos goes out to breeders that are raising, training and competing with dogs of their own breeding.

My kennel is too young to be considered in this group but the future looks good because of the young dogs working towards titles currently from Zidane from my kennel. I would consider AJ Singh the best US breeder to date with proof in results/dogs I have seen from his kennel. He has bred very careful and his knowledge of bloodlines is impeccable. I cannot take credit for titled dogs before I got Zidane but I am hoping that I will in the future have many dogs from AlabamaK9 doing well. The problem we all as breeders have is getting the dogs to the hands of the trainers. S Vargas is correct many people overlook the US kennels. Sirk9/Rob Dunn you are so correct with your post finding the good trainers like yourself and AJ for your dogs that is the key to getting your dogs noticed. Marlene

Thank you Marlene for your kind comments, but I am not in competition with anyone to be the top breeder. I just want to be included in the list of good breeders. I like this breed, I am as much of a student of this breed today as I was many years ago, and I work hard at making good breedings. I don't control nature, so there are times I am not as successful. I have utmost respect for Rob Dunn, Molly, and many other good breeders in this Country and other parts of the world. Ajay Singh www,ajaysingh.com

I find this discussion sort of odd, because I feel there are so many people, who have been long time Shepherd enthusiastes, who are fed up with the poor quality of dogs being produced in some of these well known kennels. Maybe these new breeders will produce better dogs, don't knock them until you have tried them. Well known breeders were facing the same back draft that the new breeders are facing now. Lets hope that the new breeders have learned from the breeders of the past. Good luck to them all.
