Bee you are correct I am using a computer and not a phone to download pictures.  I was having an on and off problem putting on pictures off my computer,  I'm not a computer person so I can't tell you why, I can only tell you what I did that works for me.  If I tried to download a picture out of a file on my computer it would work only sometimes and a box kept coming up asking permission for some program.  but if I put that same picture on my desktop and download it from there it works. So I figure that my problem is probally on my end and not theirs.  as a side note the picture is of our 13 month old Petra von den Oher Tannen.  I know I wasn't of any help, sorry Bee.

Question: how do I tell if I have a new PM? I see my username over at the far right side of the screen, and know I can view my PM's by clicking on it, Today, someone sent me a PM, and I didn't realize it until I actually clicked on my name. Is there some other way of knowing?

There should show (unread count) besides your username when you have unread pm's

Same error if I try to post the picture as a link.  I tried clearing cache and reducing the picture size; it did not help.

Try upgrading to IE9. Hopefully Oli will see this and offer suggestions in the meantime try upgrading to 9.

Also, you may want to update your Java.
