oh so i'm a nut now!!!!!!  :-) jk

thanks for clarification, i always thought those people that have a dog on a back-tieto a post while also have a leash in their hand were straight up gay, guess it pays not to judge.

thanks for tips, really want to show people here some improvement in next clip, i love training and love me dawgs, wish i woulda done this when i was younger.

Real men work dogs on a back tie too!  If the dog is back tied the handler doesn't need a leash unless you are working on outs or doing some control work.

There are several knowledgeable folks chiming in on this thread.  I offer one perspective, there are quite a few that could offer additional excellent suggestions.  This could be a very informative thread, it would be nice if it worked out to be one.

yes, myself i and am sure many others would benefit from any other takes on it.

if not cheers all for the gentle and constructive comments given, appreciate it.

just for fun he is the maniac after a massive run with my hunting dogs, he is like this 24/07/365, i run him every morning at about 4.00am off leash, hunt swim, run, train, then all over again at night...every day, the few hours spare he sits their crying and crying for his stupid ball, i kid you not.

unless i have absolutely no idea about dogs, check his speed and agility in the last minute or so of the clip and tell me this dog is not in the very top echelons of gsd breed in terms of mobility....Rik

also allow for his size, he is a big dog.

vk4gsd--I really like your dog!   He is hyper excited to play with you.

What obedience commands does he have?  Does he out & sit reliably?

To work him yourself--do it in play.  I like a dog that pulls & has a full grip.  To get that behavior, I get a tug tell your dog to sit, then release him & let him bite the tug.  When he pulls, immediately tell him "good boy" & let him have it.  From what I saw in the video, he'll keep the tug for a second & then bring it back to you for more interaction.  Tug for a minute & then out him. tell him to sit & repeat the game again.  Keep the tug & yourself still until he pulls (or whatever biting behavior your looking for) then when you get the correct behavior big praise & tug interaction with him.  He seems frantic because he is so excited to be with you.

This is a game so there won't be any conflict or confrontation because the dog is interacting with you in a playful way, yet you are controlling his actions.  He loves to be with you--I love him.

Real protection is something different.  Have your helper basically do the same thing except instead of praising him the helper should give ground or give a sign that the dog is winning.  If the dog is seriously biting the helper, don't have the helper praise him; have the helper act defeated.

I would also get some serious obedience control on him because he's a handful.  Again, love your dog.

It´s a good dog...
You need an experienced helper, and you need some help during handling, training once a month is not enough, this dog is lacking foundation work
- go with the squirrel, sometimes it´s okay to be a nut ...Wink Smile

haha i get it, dog is OK but the handler is s#@&t lol :-), can't argue.

will post what little ob i have done.

ss dog is unregistered guessing out of some unregistered dogs in the line, he is bred by a practical old school breeder who cares less about papers and more about traits, limits his own market perhaps but he does not advertise puppies or sell to strangers or the general public, doesn't have to.

all i can tell you as fact which i have said many times on many threads here is that he has the dog that everyone here loves to hate and ignore and is not rated by anyone except people that working ability matters with - gento on both top and bottom. would love to discuss other aspects of his line i know of, but whenever i try nobody offers any info??
