Beetree, I did not take any post on here personally and definitely did not see myself in your post, only the absurdity of what you posted by including all breeders. What I posted was what I read in your's and other posts...So I posted my opinion.

by Blitzen on 12 August 2013 - 11:08

I should clarify one of my statements, there are a FEW breeders from whom I would buy a dog without a written contract.

Oh yeah of course Joan, you little trickster. Whatever. This is a discussion and you made snide remarks and I know you meant me. Did you sell all of yours for your asking price in a timely manner? That is more on point, not making dumb remarks with dumb suggestions to buy sub-par animals from BYB breeders. That is just dumb.

Bee, perhaps your comment was not a sign of contempt, but either way it is indicative of the disdain for anyone expecting to be paid for their services unless they happen to charge for service as a rescue. This country is not yet communist, so people are entitled to receive money for their work. And until the government gets involved and starts controlling what breeders can charge, the pet consumer will dictate prices.
People who want quality dogs know where to look and what they are willing to pay.

As a buyer, I don't mind buying a pricey puppy. If I wanted a cheaper pup, I'd go find one. However, I want a quality pup. True, price doesn't always equal quality, but that's why you do research on the breed, breeder, and make sure you found the right one. I don't ever regret the amount I paid for my Malinois and wouldn't trade him for anything. Price doesn't make the puppy, but a good breeder does. I don't mind compensating the breeder for the time and money they put into their does to produce quality breed examples.

"little trickster" ????
Yes, of course I meant you beee, I quoted a portion of your post. But did I take your comment personally or see myself in your post? No. I was being straightforward in my post, not being snide or "tricky". LOL

by beetree on 12 August 2013 - 12:08

No, it wasn't indicative of contempt, if you actually read my other posts where I specifically say I would NEVER EXPECT TO GET A PUP FOR NOTHING. Geeze. Trickster, yes.

Fact is there is also a supply and demand aspect as well. Top studs like Hank (saw puppies for $4500 and cheaper overseas) Bomber (puppies as high as $4500 as low as $2500) Drago (1800-2500) and other top studs are not bred to any swinging dick with a female. There is a limited supply of them. So when supply is low demand will drive prices up. Top trainers want top dogs  This is the same for houses, cars, coins, baseball cards, baseball players etc.   it is the way the free market goes. Less known or popular studs the cheaper the price of the pups.

A male sch1 with a female sch1 is not going to have as much demand. Unless both are somehow well known.

And that all goes back to the same things - breeders, trainers, and owners with longevity in the breed and proven track records. Without that those dogs would not be here or would be wasted sitting in someone's backyard. Quality doesn't cost, it pays.

by beetree on 12 August 2013 - 13:08

So, Joan, do pet owners dictate your prices? I find that very hard to believe. Especially the least experienced one's who haven't a clue what all those letters mean on that precious piece of paper?
