neighbor has 100% off leash dogs and no fence, dog comes across road and two drains and picks fights with my dogs behind a sheep fence, dog stuck it's head thru mesh, my dogs get hold of it's head, their dog bites me while i am trying to pry my dogs jaws open, i get dogs apart and other dog goes home with injuries, neighbor may or may not make complaint and want me to pay vet bills. i take photos of my bit hand but make no complaint hoping it blows over as i think they have no case - off leash dog technically on my property as it's head was thru mesh?

any advice?

Don't get a cheap one.

I  think you need a lawyer.  Sorry but not enough of your fellow
Auzzies on here to tell us about the laws in your country relating
to dog bites, property rights etc - you might wait a l-o-n-g time
for a useful reply, I suspect.

I would take some legal advice, just to find out exactly how you
stand.

Incidentally, you said the neighbours dog ended up with injuries
but you didn't say what, or how severe ?

should have gone to ER and send your bill to your neighbor...that would have shut him up...oh and I would have thrown in fence damage repair into it...

How in the world can you get bit by a head with such restricted movement? You had to have almost placed your hand in the dogs mouth. Get behind your dog. Straddle him with your legs, at his waist, behind the rib cage. With one hand, get a good grip on the scruff of your dog's neck, with your other hand use a parting stick, or other object to pry your dogs jaws open. Never put your hands in, or even near any dog's mouth engaged in any type of combat. Anyone who has a dog that will fight under any circumstances, needs a parting stick. Even if you just hold your dog still and pull back, eventually he will try for another hold, and allow you to get him free from the other dog.

Then don't ask for advice.

pic of my lil bite;

not bad but i can frame it such that the emotional trauma and etc will keep a complaint against my poor dogs minding their own business and then having to defend themselves from a roaming vicious and dangerous predator invading and attacking them and me on my own property....see what i did right there.

Reason I asked was that I saw one (new) dog get his head dragged through
a wire fence in a similar way, when fighting off a 'pack' of other GSDs who'd
ganged up on him, and I was interested in comparing the injuries sustained.
Doesn't matter - with hindsight, I suppose you'd not want to list them publicly.

That was a serious suggestion about finding out where you stand legally, though.

How the hell did the dog get his head stuck through mesh which i sumise is Wire Mesh in the first place unless there was already an hole in it to get its head through. to make a hole big enough to get its head through would have cut the dogs mouth up pretty good i would think and do its teeth no good in the process, plus the time it would have taken, by then your dogs would have alerted you way before that happened.
As Abhay said you never put your hand near a dogs mouth in a situation like that  i really do wonder how much you know about dogs the way you post. Yes you will need to take legal advice but at the end of the day it is your dogs who may be the ones to suffer
