HM, can you give specifics of the US using chemicals to increase protien count which is know to cause death? Melamine is not a preservative. In the US, when screw ups are discovered, the product is pulled until the problem is rectified. The stuff made in China continues to flood the market....a lot of Americans are savey, and won't buy China made products. (that ain't being xenophobic, it's being smart.)

"Well, Keith, you do not deny your bonus freebie!  However you say yuck! "

I'm not sure I get your point?  How are freeze dried chicken livers different from freeze dried anything else, much of which is commonly available to people as well?  I didn't say that jerky is the only treat I use but I do use it and human jerky is cheaper than any jerky treats I've seen sold for pet consumption...and we can share it!

Here are the freeze dried livers, btw: http://www.wag.com/dog/p/pro-treat-all-natural-freeze-dried-chicken-liver-118681?site=CA&utm_source=Google&utm_medium=cpc_W&utm_term=GIM-005&utm_campaign=GooglePLA&CAWELAID=1323844469&utm_content=pla&ca_sku=GIM-005&ca_gpa=pla&ca_kw={keyword}

I was reading about fish packaging in China as well. You have to be careful with frozen seafood as most of the local seafood caught in the world are sent to China to be repackaged and frozen. It is cheaper for the seafood companies to send it to China where they pump it up with chemicals and then refreeze and package it. That is why I am leery when I see salmon as the number 1 ingredient on a dog food where it doesn't say the ingredients are local. Salmon caught in the Pacific Ocean, for instance, is frozen, then sent to china then pumped with chemicals then refrozen then sent back here. So the dog food company can say..... fresh caught in the USA or Canada, they just fail to mention that it came back from China frozen. Someone I know, switched his dog off Taste of the Wild Salmon as he didn't want his dog eating salmon frozen in China.
I am just not sure what is safe to eat anymore.

A friend of mine called Costco Pet products to find out the source of Nature's Domain salmon and sweet potato. The Costco person said that all the ingredients for ND are sourced in either the US or Canada. The reason I wanted to find out where the sweet potatoes come from is that so much sweet potatoes come from China, due to supply and demand in the US. But who knows.....you can feed raw and worry about the crap that is fed to the animals butchered and the poison in on and GMOd in the veggies. Even growing your own, the commercial feed from TS, for example, has "animal protein" preserved with ethoxoquin (a known carcinogen). Feeding raw chicken is just as bad, with all the antibiotics fed to chickens.

Lanhua, Fukushima is just one more problem.

If you can handle this, more on the dog meat market in China and the preference for GSD coat in the fur market.

I wasn't trying to say  Asian people treat their dogs bad, I know there are very well cared for dogs, owned by Asian people.. I was just saying the culturally speaking, dogs were a source of food. People all over, in every country, seem to treat their "food" animals a lot different than "pet" animals. Look at  factory farmed pigs. Farrowing crates, living in cramped, dark, concrete sheds. Fed all kinds of antibiotics and steroids, just to be kept "healthy" enough for human consumption..
American people would throw a fit if a dog or cat was treated the same as we do our "food" animals, so if an animal is considered a food source in that culture, it will not receive the same level of care that a pet animal would, in any culture.. I wasn't judging, just stating my opinion. I don't believe ANY animal should be treated inhumanly, or fed dangerous feeds..
My cousin's wife is from Korea, she spoils her 2 dogs, they are treated way too good!! But her parents and older relatives talk about how they don't consider dogs "pets" and I can't say they are very nice to the dogs.. lol..
I think this thread was started to warn people to be aware of what their dogs are being fed, not to bash a certain race or country necessarily.. Least I hope so.. lol
