I have read several comments that people have made about reputable breeders at a reasonable price; however, no one has ever provided any breeder names that I can check into.  I haven't purchased one yet because I'm afraid that if they're asking too much, that I will pay more than I should.  If they're not asking a huge amount, I'm worried that I'm getting an "unworthy" dog.  I want to eventually breed the pup that I get, and so I want to ensure that I'm spending my money on one that will be of breeding quality.  Can anyone suggest a breeder that I can look into?  Thanks in advance!

You will never ensure that you're buying breed-worthy PUPPY.

You are in deep, deep trouble .. find several breeders within a comfortable driving range.  Go visit in person and look at their dogs on their web sites.  Find a dog that you like and one that likes you .. breeding dogs is a good way to make yourself very sad.  Listen to your dog and ignore all humans.

I definitely understand that.  My main request is if anyone can refer or suggest a reputable breeder who prices reasonably.  I'm not suggesting I'm looking for a cheap deal, I'm just wanting to ensure that I am not being taken advantage of.

You should decide what it is you want in your GSD before you shop .. take time to learn all you can and look at some dogs in person at some breeders kennels.  People who have been in the business get taken so why should you fare any better than they do.  Find a breeder who has the type GSD you like, research that breeder well, get to know them and wait for your dog to be born or appear.

Reasonable is relative. What do you WANT- then we can give you a possible range of "reasonable" prices. If you're even considering breeding, you ought to have a good idea on what it is that you want- what bloodlines, what age, what gender, out of what parents, etc. etc.

Not being taken advantage of shouldn't really be your main search criteria. You should pinpoint what it is that you want in a dog, THEN work on finding it, THEN work on negotiating a FAIR price, and along the way, you'll gain very valuable insight. Hopefully, by the time you feel comfortable with a breeder, you're not going to worry that you're going to be taken advantage of. Prices on adults vary widely. Adults are breeding prospects; puppies are companions who may have more potential in the future- but who knows? I can say with a fair amount of certainty what type temperament my pups will have, but I cannot say they'll be breeding quality, so worrying about paying too much for a "breeding quality puppy" is kind of an exercise in futility. Wink Smile

I do know what I'm hoping to get out of a puppy. I do understand that there are huge risks with no guarantees of any kind. I was really just hoping someone might know of any reputable gsd breeders that I could look into.

( I want to eventually breed the pup that I get ) .................Why?

Until you have a better reason for purchasing a German Shepherd pup, and exhibit some knowledge of raising, caring for, and training a pup, and have the means and where with all to keep such an animal,
I wouldn't suggest anything else other than an education.

Wow. Never mind. I had a simple question asking for advice and instead I get spoken to like a child. I didn't realize I needed to give a dissertation on my motives to simply ask if anyone knew of a reputable breeder.
