Joanro, i get that thats y i need. Ideals of what to tell them ti test for

by joanro on 25 January 2014 - 22:01

You got it. Hope you've received enough ideas here to go on. If the dogs are not scratching inside their ears, and given your location, fleas are a strong possibility. They don't go away seasonally in the south. Hope that's all it is. Biospot is the least poisonous, compared to what they vets are selling.

A yeast infection is not caused by fleas. Any flea infection to be causing this many problems would probably be noticed by the humans in the house.

Please tell your vet to give your dogs BKT to control the itching before they end up with hematomas.  What causes a yeast infection inside the ears? Mites/fleas??? lol.

Please tell my vets that dogs don't have food allergies - ie 2 different sets of tests by 2 different vets on 2 dogs both showed allergies to different foods and the funny thing is those tests were near identical.

as for the reaction to ivermectin, the saying is "white feet don't treat"  so its breeds like Border Collies, Aussies, Collies, etc.  I know there's a test for it, called MDR1

Are you applying a flea control product to the dog's skin?  Frontline?  Biospot?  Anything?

CMills, read my post on the previous page for a relevant link. Border Collies actually have a very low number of dogs testing as having the mutant MDR1 gene, lower even than mixed breed dogs.

Well I guess that takes fleas out of the equation. Please please look into BKT to give your dogs relief from the ear itching. And spend the money to do allergy testing so you will have an idea what is causing the itching. Bet it is either food or environmental. Fleas and mites are highly unlikely, IMO.

How long have you been applying advantix2 ? How long after applying it the last time did the dogs start scratching. Maybe they have developed an allergy to advantix2 .....they wouldn't be the first ones.
