the lie never ends even after what is being lied about no longer exists, if it ever did.

the "gsd" is just a convenient marketting point, the actual living breathing dogs that fall under that banner are diverse and distinct as chalk and cheese obvious to even the most uneducated.

grow up from the myth and find another brand focus like the dogs you actually bring into existence and celebrate and market them for whatever they are, pet, show, sport, junkyard whatever rocks yr boat just stop trying to fool everyone else, it isn't working anymore.

Tell that garbage to the thousands of handlers and soldiers that depended on scout/mine and tunnel/tracking/sentry/patrol dogs to come home safely from Vietnam Nam.....I mean it's not like they were playing video games or Internet expert.....smh!

1969 .. Vietnam .. how many dogs serving the US military were IPO trained .. about zero .. IPO hardly existed in the United States before 1970 and few if any of the dogs serving in Vietnam were IPO dogs or had any IPO training or background .. another myth from the IPO idiots.  The lies about how IPO and biting sports are necessary to breed and train dogs for work just keep on coming.

by duke1965 on 05 March 2014 - 15:03

bubba the majority of police and LE dogs both GSD and Malinois come from IPO breeding and training, actually many dogs that dont make it in IPO become LE dogs Wink Smile

No title is ever needed or required to breed a dog. Titles dont get passed on when you breed, temperament does, clear heads do, stability does, etc. If the dogs being bred have these qualities, that is what is needed, however, the WORKING abilities of this breed must be the first and foremost concern when breeding, not to produce pet dogs that one can get out of the pound.

Bubba you are missing the point,  the dogs - in America and elsewhere -
used for Police and Army work, whether now or forty years ago, are/were
still trained in roughly the same exercises.  It doesn't matter whether you
call it Schutzhund, or VPG, or IPO, or whether you make it a breed test
or turn it into a points-scoring sport.  They are/were trained to be obedient;
they are/were trained to track;  they are/were trained to bite.  Saying a dog
that served the Military in 'Nam or elsewhere "Was never trained in IPO" is
a total irrelevance.

The dogs in Vietnam weren't trained in IPO tracking because it is useless for military work.  The point is exactly that the IPO idiots claim that unless a GSD dog is titled it shouldn't be bred and yet the originators and founders of the GSD as a breed obviously could not have done so as schutzhund and IPO didn't exist before after the 2nd world war.  Some German Shepherds and several other dog breeds can participate in a silly little game called IPO but it has nothing to do with breed worthiness or betterment of any breed.  Using the word "work" as a synonym for biting is a joke as the "work" that the founders had in mind when they selected and bred the foundation stock of the GSD was not biting a jute sleeve.  Working line is a term that means nothing just like saying all black men and women are good at basketball and that all white people have no rythm or dance ability.  The entire IPO world is based on a lie of it being relevant to breeding dogs of "superior" worth which it does not.  The worth of any dog is determined by the dog's ability to live a healthy life and serve it's purpose for living.  A pet dog has just as much value or worth as does a LE dog to the dog and to it's owner.

by zdog on 05 March 2014 - 16:03

and yet any dog that can do IPO tracking can be trained to do any other scenting, trailing, air, ground, water, cadaver, wounded animal or any other type of tracking an owner wants them to do.  Again, what's with posting on a topic you know zero about?  You have no idea how the methodical, deep nose is judged or why it is important.  Or how a dog that can be trained to be thoughtful on a track, remain obedient, and use it's nose, uncovers strenghts and weaknesses in that dogs character that would be useful for breeding.

please, man with tiny brain and biggest mouth, just go away.

Bubba, the difference in a pet dog's worth or value and a dog which is depended upon in LE, are the demands put upon the dog. Breeding dogs which come from generations of "pets" with no training for jobs that put demands on the dog, other than 'does it like to lay in front of the hearth?', is destined to diminish the quality of the breed. Generations of "pet" dog selection, excluding consideration for any kind of work that requires strong nerves, environmental soundness, discernment, clear head, suspicion, necessary drives, normal instincts, etc. is the road to selecting for extinction of the GSD as the breed was intended to be.
