Lexi (photo below) is a smart, sweet, housebroken, beautiful purebred sable GSD who appears to be working lines. Her owners left her at the shelter because she escaped from standard crates when she was left alone. I will donate an escape-proof crate if needed to the person who adopts her. I will also pay for her adoption fee. I can also arrange for free training for her. Lexi is good with other dogs (not good with cats), and known to be good with older kids. It's not known how she is with very young kids. She has had some obedience training. She is spayed, and current on DHLPP+C until August 2014 and current on rabies vaccination until August 2016. She is an exceptionally affectionate, pretty GSD who will die very soon unless someone adopts her or a rescue group pulls her. The shelter people do their best, but they are in an area of Indiana where there aren't many adoptions. They run out of space and have to kill dogs.

Lexi is understandably anxious at the shelter. She seems to know that she is in grave danger there. If you have any interest in her, please get her out of the shelter ASAP! She will be killed soon.

Lexi is at the Huntington County Humane Shelter located at 390 Thurman Poe Way, Huntington, Indiana, which is close to Fort Wayne, Indiana.

The shelter phone number is 260-356-0355, and you should ask for Mary.

The shelter hours are Monday, Tuesday and Friday 12 pm until 6 pm and Saturday 10 am until 12 pm, They are closed on Wednesday and Thursday.

Lexi has very little time left. She is only 5 years old and appears to be completely healthy. She deserves much better than an early death.

This pic is killing me, I would take her in and rehome her IF she can get a ride to NY. Shoot, even Pa., I'd go pick her up?
I don't even like to look at the rescues because I feel so helpless...

I am about 4 hours away- if someone will take her I could possibly house her for a couple days.

If  I can get her to NY, like I said, I WOULD rehome her. I'm sure we could get her a home jenn. If you can get her, that would be great.
I need a little time to arrange transport.
To me, escape artist is lame excuse for her owner, esp when OP has offered escape proof crate.

I have a friend in Canada who wants her. She already has a retired, female German Shepherd and has owned GSD's for many years.  She, herselft is retired, and can spend plenty of time with Lexi.  Tomorrow she intends to call the shelter for details on how to adopt her.  Any other assistance and/or advise will surely be appreciated.  It truly warms my heart to see others as concerned as we are.  Hugs to you all!

Please post back BPulfer and let us know what's going on so she doesn't fall through the cracks because everyone thought someone else took care of her.

Anyone who wants to save Lexi should call the shelter as soon as they open today (Monday). Lexi could be killed this morning, this afternoon, anytime. If more dogs come in and they need the space, Lexi will die. Delays equal death when a dog is at a kill shelter.

Please do not put off calling because you think someone else is calling. This is how dogs at kill shelters die--everyone assumes someone else is taking the dog, so no one calls and the dog is killed.

If the shelter gets a bunch of calls from people who want Lexi, they will likely hang on to her for a bit.

Transport is never a problem if people chip in and help. Lexi could even be shipped if people are willing to chip in to pay for it. $500 shipping divided among 25 people is only 20 bucks a person. An escape-proof crate, if needed, can be delivered just about anywhere, and I will arrange this if needed.
