For my friends it cost $25 for the entry fee, $15 if the dog was in the 6 months to 12 months group, it was a day trip and they traveled between 1.5 hours and 2 .5 hours, depending on where they lived. The show was held in Paduchah, KY and we  live spread out between Clarksville, TN, Bowling Green, KY, and the Nasville, TN area. There was a nice lunch provided for everyone at no charge.

I entered some dogs in a UKC show and had a blast! 4 dogs for the weekend, 2 shows each day. It was an expensive weekend, but was also good learning experience.

I had "0" experience and the judges were so helpful. I walked into the ring with the first dog and obviously looked like a newbee. The judge smiled and helped me the whole way. I was even allowed a "redo" on the there and back becasue I managed to do it wrong the first time. It was a wonderful experience

The show was very fast paced, an I'd never try to show 4 dogs in 3 different groups every again. I was running back and forth and also looking for someone to handle dogs when more then one was in a group together. Nord did very nicely and only needed one more win to make it to the next level.

I never could understand all the point system, to me its complicated.

Nord at UKC show.

VK.........great idea!

melba, I placed last in a very large class my first time in an AKC ring with an ASL GSD. I enjoyed the experience, didn't go away thinking the judge was stupid, nobody likes me, bunch of meanies etc. Just started learning what I had to do to get to the front of the line.

If you are curious enough to ask, then it's something you are thinking about. I would say just do it. You may well like conformation showing, you may not but you will never know till you try.

And remember, someone is always at the end of the line and a lot of us have been there.

Anybody here ever show under the international rules? IABCA : International All Breed Canine Association

They have a written critque and the shows are a lot fo fun. You can finish a dog in a weekend, with or witout competition. As they judge each dog against the written standard and not each other.

I'm planning to go to the Ocala show in the fall to finish my dog's showing venture and get more serious about her working titles.

IABCA is a little more expensive then UKC but the titles are great, the tropies are cool and you don't have to run from show to show over months.

UKC still love them and if you enter in advance you can get in reasonably priced. Day of show is a killer though. :p

Have fun.

Fry

Not too shabby for a funny looking little dog. :p

Melba:  I think it would be fun for you to attend and compete at Conformation shows;  give it a try and let us know how you did.  It is not ALWAYS about winning;  just get acquinted with techniques and meet new people and dogs and go and have a fun day with your boy.  Prior to the show try to teach him to free stack;  in otherwords have him walk into stack and stay or hold stack.  You might have to adjust back foot by hand;  the less you fiddle with his stack the better and teach him to move on lead smoothly just slightly ahead of you.  Good luck  Nan

MOST IMPORTANTLY;  HAVE FUN...

I agree with entering the show. Good experience for both of you. I have paid entrance fees for obedience competitions and not won, so what is the difference? Give the dog and yourself some ring experience. I am actually considering doing the same wtih my working line pups. I have no idea how to show in the conformation ring, so I need to learn some where and there are probably more AKC shows near me than UKC.

We missed SE Rgionalconformation show last year, that our club hosted, due to being 9 mnths prego lol. My biggest thing right now is that I don't want to travel more than an hour or so. :) Any suggestions on gaiting? His stride is so large that I can't run fast enough to get full extention.  When doing his AD, we had to keep the pace around 12 13 mph, otherwise he just ambled along. My other guy was comfortable at about 9 mph, and I have no prob. Gaiting with him..
