So how many with working lines exhibit at Sieger shows in the US?

by gsdstudent on 11 July 2014 - 13:07

There is a group who compete at the National working dog championship and at the SS. They strive for the Universal Sieger [ in the USA and Germany] Sometimes the winner of this is from the quote-unquote show lines and some times from the quote-unquote working lines.

He's talking to you Blitzen.  lol.

How exactly is this going to be "good" for the breed?]

How can you as an org. honestly host two back to back national conformation champions?

what ever does not kill us will make us stronger. It will be good for the breed when ever GSDs are show cased to promote breed worthiness. There needs to be an on-going conversation about how the events sanctioned provide the forum to educate the novice. These events should indicate the best specimens for breeding. All work [ and no play] makes Johnny vd heavens gates an incomplete boy. All show [ and no go] makes for the miss america pagent. Balance grass hopper balance

There's that 'mentality' thing. Why can't an organization support two types of dogs? The SV supports multiple types in their organization, why does the GSDCA have to choose one? Why can't they do three? Right now we are all talking about two, the ASL and the WGSL, what about the working lines? Why can't they support them too?

Why does your right to select the type of German Shepherd you want prevent others from selecting the type of German Shepherd they want?

by Blitzen on 11 July 2014 - 14:07

Why does it matter if a few of the same old workingline people spewing the same old BS ad nauseum won't support the GSDCA Seiger show or any conformation show? Why do we even care? The US Sieger, NASS, all the local SV conformation shows are doing fine without their support and will continue to do so. Let them eat cake; we don't need their approval to show our dogs in conformation.

Student, maybe you should start a new thread about this.

Blitzen:

Looks like you are right about the GSDCA Sieger Show.

On the WL and SL issue, I always find it interesting that WL people never seem to acknowledge that the Sieger had to actually compete in "Working Trials" to earn that SchH3 or IPO3.  They also fail to acknowledge that Show Dogs do compete in trials but Working Liine dogs are as scarce as hen's teeth at breed shows. Wonder why?  My dogs earned the degrees and their show titles. I bred, owned and trained the first American Bred GSD in this country to get a V-rating at an SV Sanctioned Show. His name was Argon von der Medlenhaus and he was born in 1984 and raised in my house. He earned his SchH3 under Tony Perrone and he was awarded his V-rating by SV Judge and Koermeister Heinz Huehn at the first SV Sanctioned Show held in the United States in 1987.  Don't know if he was a show line or working line but he was really fun to be with.

If your show line dog is not worthy of his degree don't breed him/her. If your working line dog is not structurally sound enough to be shown in the conformation ring then don't breed him/her. If we all practiced the parameters of the previous sentence there would be either Working Show Lines or the Show Working Lines but there would not be two.

richard; amen; do not breed the unworthy!

by bzcz on 11 July 2014 - 15:07

Richard,

I'm not working line, I'm breed standard and I do show and title our dogs.  I agree that they need shown and titled. I even took a dog that I got when he was older and put an AD on him after he was 6 and before he was breed surveyed.  I didn't have to do the AD for the breed survey because of his age but we did because 6 isn't really that old and he should be able to do it. Which he did, no problem.

Several of our dogs have gone V in conformation, most are KKLl1.  That's the breed standard.  Work with no show is not the breed standard as showing and titling is not the standard.

Dog1 there is only on e sv breed standard.  Show me the other one you keep referencing.

So how do you crown two different dogs NATIONAL CONFORMATION CHAMPIONS?

Funny how no one can answer a simple question.

Are there two Super Bowl Champions?, Two Kentuck Derby Winners, Horse of the Year Winners, World Cup Champions....????

Lots of talk talk talk, but no answer.....
