Another Nice one...
Weimaraner sneak attack

Western Rider

People;e forget that the Weimaraner was not first a bird dog or in any way a pointer.

It was created to be a hunter of great courage. It was used to hunt and bring down Bears, Mountain cats, wild hogs and most anything else that was dangerous and then with the same fieriness guard the land and its people.

Now we breed them so that they can't handle being stared at.

One of the  things I want in any dog that I own, I want it able to stare back.

I like the ones I have seen, They guard the owner's property, bark and stare from the behind a fence, Never seen one on a sleeve thow, never tried one :)

Before you criticize my request:

1. Blue/blue gray eyes are not a fault.  Please check the AKC website.   A blue coat is a fault and that is not what I asked for.

2. Please look up the word reserved. " formal or self-restrained in manner and relationship; avoiding familiarity or intimacy with others."    No where does that mean a weak dog.

For those who gave actual useful info, thanks.   For those that took to criticize rather than actually pay attention to my post........

http://www.akc.org/breeds/weimaraner/breed_standard.cfm

Head: Moderately long and aristocratic, with moderate stop and slight median line extending back over the forehead. Rather prominent occipital bone and trumpets well set back, beginning at the back of the eye sockets. Measurement from tip of nose to stop equals that from stop to occipital bone. The flews should be straight, delicate at the nostrils. Skin drawn tightly. Neck clean-cut and moderately long. Expression kind, keen and intelligent. Ears-Long and lobular, slightly folded and set high. The ear when drawn snugly alongside the jaw should end approximately 2 inches from the point of the nose.

. Eyes-In shades of light amber, gray or blue-gray, set well enough apart to indicate good disposition and intelligence.

When dilated under excitement the eyes may appear almost black. Teeth-Well set, strong and even; well-developed and proportionate to jaw with correct scissors bite, the upper teeth protruding slightly over the lower teeth but not more than one sixteenth of an inch. Complete dentition is greatly to be desired. Nose-Gray. Lips and Gums-Pinkish flesh shades.

I do not consider it a friendly outgoing breed they are high high maintenance and needy they make lots of noises and are not tractable and prone to dog and people aggression they are also high energy I have worked with several with aggression, ask questions and not questions like do they have good temperamnt because thats so subjective I ask questions like ''what do they if'' have a bone. see a strange dog a stranger knocks atr the door etc ? and do they have have a kind gentle soul.thst breed stresses me out! plus I would look for genetic clearences

Reserved weimaraner might be more than your mother will want. Did I say reserved weimaraner means weak? Maybe you could ask for clarification before you jump to conclusions. I'm sorry I offered you any help you asked for. Good luck and I hope your mother gets a dog she can handle. Weimaraner rescued is a good place to start, they have lots that need rehoming.

Blue-grey is not blue as seen in a husky.
Panzertoo, I know a lady who does weimaraner rescue, she is always maxed out. I have seen two weims at her place that were actually social and didn't hang back barking the whole time people were at the place.

Fawn, I think you misunderstood our posts totally - we don´t know how old, fit, and used to "special" breeds your mother is, but the Weimaraner is no pet breed - at least over here the Weimaraners used as working dogs are very strong and self-confident, whereas the "pet" Weimaraners tend to have a lot of aggression problems - no fun to deal with.
Maybe you are able to find a well temperamented one, I really wish you good luck, but I always think of your mother as an elderly woman looking for an easy to handle oversized companion dog. I don´t want to get her ( and you ) in trouble, but maybe I´m totally wrong and your mom is a very tuff and experienced lady...
