Lots of answers in this thread; none of which are correct.

the direction I went when looking for a "church'' was; Obedience training groups, breed club focused on conformation, Schutzhund training , and police k9. You find out that the handler praying the loudest might still be looking for direction and the idiot screaming the ''sky is falling'' is just plain wrong and without any answers. You will meet real GSD people who keep adding to the puzzle. In the end no church has the only route but there is a real GSD who needs to be nurtured by the flock.

So wusv is the org defining the GSD across the world but the SV is a breed club for GSD in Germany alone?

Big e-hug (in a non gay way, non sexual way) for the first poster to put this all in a flow chart.

"So wusv is the org defining the GSD across the world but the SV is a breed club for GSD in Germany alone?"

Not exactly.  The FCI recognized standard for virtually all breeds is set by the parent organization in each breed's country of origin.  In the case of the GSD, that is the SV.

so if you received the answer you were looking for, go find another question.

The FCI is an international organization whose members are the national umbrella organizations that themselves have the breed clubs of their country as members. In Germany, the national organization is the VDH. The SV (and the other German breed clubs) is a member of VDH, and VDH is a member of FCI.

AKC and KC are not members of FCI.

WUSV is the international umbrella organization of German shepherd dog clubs. It is not a member of FCI but has an agreement of cooperation (more a truce!) with it. WUSV and FCI had a strenuous relationship from the inception of WUSV in 1975 on. In terms of organizational hierarchy, WUSV is a parallel organization to FCI, even if only in the world of German shepherd dogs. They eventually reached an agreement. WUSV has member clubs from non FCI countries (in the US both GSDCA, USCA).

Since WUSV is a part of the SV empire, it did not allow the German alternative GSD club RSV to join although the RSV is also a VDH member, thus FCI recognized via the national umbrella organization. WUSV wants to have one GSD club for each country but has already accepted two in the case of the US. As a consequence, the RSV started its own 'RSV global' in 2014, equivalent to the WUSV but, like the RSV, still much smaller than it (but growing). Like the WUSV, the RSVglobal wasn't welcomed by the FCI. I don't know where that stands now, probably mid-negotiation.

AKC and FCI clubs such as the SV differ significantly in their registration requirements. The SV standards are much higher, and breeders are provided more resources.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the clarification!

Akc is an All Breed Registry, that's all it is. The breed standards are provided by the respective Breed Clubs. Any stipulations pertaining to specific breeds are regulated by the individual breed clubs, just as the sv sets rules for their breed. Its not up to akc to set breed standards nor breeding standards... SV is a Breed Club and registry, much like the Border Collie breed club here in the us, whose standards are so high, ive been told, that they don't accept akc registered dogs.

Follow the money ... The religion analogy is a good one!! Many of the GSD and Breed Club organizations follow a doctrine of exclusion and persecution of the non-believer in their mythology which in most cases is just another flavor of the same god or version of the same Bible. Similar to what happened in England when the King James Bible was created to settle the squabbles between the various warring factions of English Christians who couldn't agree on what the Bible meant or which short stories should be included in the Biblical collection of texts. Also just like religions the persecution and greed of the organizations and the corrupt leadership has led to splinter religions from the original such as the Catholic Church which has splintered into many smaller organizations with almost identical Bibles, theology, mythology, and rules but with smaller memberships, another group of sanctified leaders and separate bank accounts. There are roughly 4.5 million pure bred GSD in the United States but it seems most owners are agnostic or atheists when it comes to the breed registries and GSD religions. I have sold pure bred litter registered GSD to very nice people with plenty of money and education who told me they could care less about the AKC, GSDCA, USCA, and all the other religions posing as representing the GSD in the USA. To a large degree the costs which go up with the amount of suspension of reality required by the AKC, GSDCA, USCA, SV, and other dog religions combined with the phoney rules and regulations that usually are based on belief more than science limit the participation of the 4.5 million GSD owners in the organized dog religions to less than 1% of the GSD population in the USA. Lets compare the AKC with the Unitarians which pretty much has a looser set of exclusionary principle and we can compare some other dog organizations to the snake handling churches or those that want to kill all infidels and everyone except them are infidels.

Good analogy...it's always follow the money.
