"She sold her home for over a million dollars, so BYB or no, she's making good money. She owns a pet store, and is breeding dogs and cats to sell."

OVER a MILLION dollars, and she's breeding dogs and cats to SELL in a PET store ?!
People bash the USA all the time, but at least puppies and kittens specifically bred to sell in pet shops has been outlawed...(still allowed to sell so called 'rescues', though, unfortunately)
How does one justify doing what this woman is doing to these poor little Corgies for fkin MONEY!!!!How much MONEYdoes she need, anyway? Greedgreedgreedgreed.

Well we're dealing with a whole different story now. And Ss playing the sympathy card for her u must have known this. This is puppy farming and by the sounds of it other animals will be involved to

'Life is pretty damned unfair sometimes.'

Especially for dogs and cats who are used to "make" puppies and kittens at any cost, including being induced to eat their two week old pups and being taken away from them for hours in the day when the puppies are dependant on the mother for nurturing....That Sucks a big fat wet one!

I don't think it has been--in a few communities, pet stores aren't allowed to sell puppies/kittens, but that's the vast minority. There's several big companies that do commercial breeding -- Hunte Corporation, for one -- as well as multiple "dog farms" in various locations. Here's an article I read just earlier today: http://www.winonadailynews.com/news/local/govt-and-politics/winona-county-board-approves-amish-dog-kennels/article_0fb36c59-2373-5f58-a04a-1cb3015b6ae3.html

I stand corrected, Christine. I knew after I posted that there are many states that still allowed pet store marketing of live mammals, including pups.
But it is outlawed in some. There are lots of 'commercial breeders and disallowing 'pet shops' has been an attempt to curb them.

What Joanro said. If your not equipped to whelp pups......don't. Not the bitches fault, yours......

How quick people are to judge...this board never ceases to amaze me!

The owner is raising dogs to sell mostly online through her website, but also through her OWN pet store. Not shipping them across the country to sell at multiple stores. She has a total of 10 dogs, mostly corgis. She also has a Samoyed and an Akita which are her pets. She frequently takes them home with her, but now she's getting ready to move, they are mostly at the kennel. She truly loves animals, but she comes from a country where dogs run loose in the streets, and the standard of care is totally different. Breeding and whelping are not as carefully supervised as they are here.

Until now, her dogs have been housed either at the store or in her own home. At the store, they had to poop and pee in their own cages, which were lined with shredded paper. Since they came here, they can now go outside, and are in a much better environment.

When I found out the bitch was due to whelp, I asked what the owner was planning to do. She said she would take her home, which is what she's done now.

As for my whelping facility, gee, I suppose all of you who breed have a place in your house where your females will never even catch a whiff of another dog? Not even on the other side of a closed door, or when they go out to pee? Come on, now!

My own dogs showed zero interest in the spare bedroom after I made it very clear it was off limits. I never let my dogs in this room anyway, as some of my friends have allergies, and I wanted one room in the house that was as free of dog and cat hair as possible. I would let my dogs out first, before taking the female out. If I forgot, and let my own dogs in before her, I would carry her into the bedroom, and not even let them sniff noses with her. She went out alone in a run, until another dog came in that was using that run (the pup that was treated for roundworms.) No way was I letting her into THAT run after it had been contaminated! Then I turned her out with 2 other corgis, dogs she had been turned out with previously, and had known for a long time. Dogs I knew were fully vaccinated and free of parasites.

The new owner is going to convert a room in the basement into a whelping room, but of course, that has to wait until I'm moved. And no, I couldn't have kept the female down there with the state that area is in right now.
