Nice one Keith LOL. Where did this thred boil down to only being
re: posters' comments about Training anyway? It is hard to contest
some claims about drives or grip or IPO or the SV in general, if you
have not 'walked the walk' yourself, true. But this conversation started
much wider than that, and there are loads of ways to argue about
whether someone's GENERAL dog or GSD info - about health issues,
or feeding, or basic puppy training etc are right or not. Without getting
nasty about it ! GSDAdmin says that Windy wasn't the deciding factor,
but it still seems the issues that p'd Hodie off about the forum were on
breeding philosophy as much as SchH points and titles ?

I’m with you there, but I’ve noticed that being anonymous also aids in the discussion. You’re able to speak your mind, voice your opinion, without someone judging it based on who you are in real life…and lets say they do know your level of knowledge or experience in real life…they’ll surely use that against you when trying to disprove something. I think as important as level of experience is, to be totally objective and open minded, you should try to read every post for what it is and not have external information on who it’s coming from and how much experience that person has. Then you can objectively look at the statements, accept or dismiss them for what they are and not from who they are coming from, because lets face it, those of us that are out there training dogs know that you can’t just believe everything people say no matter how long they’ve been doing it.

In regards to "general dog knowledge" there is again a natural hierarchy that exists between pet people and those that have done more advanced training or breeding. Pick a topic and it's more than likely that someone that deals with breeding/showing/working the dogs is going to have more experience in it than any regular person on the street. That rubs those people the wrong way because some of them think that just because they’ve owned 4 shepherds over the last 40 years they have more knowledge than people that have been doing it for 5 but have trained with or actively involved with dozens of dogs. Much truly boils down to “years of experience” rather than real accomplishments or real knowledge and again, when the reason for someone being right is just “they’ve done it longer” it doesn’t work with most people. And the reason I’ve focused on IPO training/breeding is that it’s the general thought process that stems from the clubs and training groups. Those that have done it longest are the “all knowing” and must not be questioned…even when those people haven’t accomplished anything noteworthy in ages.

What do any of these musings have to do with contacting Hodie? Pure conjecture by the uninformed. If ever a thread has gone off topic, this would be it. SMH

This thread should be renamed: Royally Misunderstood: Looking for answers in all the wrong places by all the wrong people.

by joanro on 17 February 2016 - 20:02

Beetree, well done!

Search Hodie on the forum, you'll see plenty of "looking for hodie" threads over the last 4 or so years. The didn't go anywhere and the same conclusion was reached that was reached within a page of this thread.

Why does it matter that it's not being discussed? The conclusion was reached a long time ago that it wasn't going to be possible to contact that former member. Others started discussing something else that was related at the time to why that member left the forum in the first place. Does it really bother you that something is being discussed and it's not summarized properly by the thread title? Does that really affect you in your day to day life or in your use of the forum? Do you really need to "shake your head" because the topic has skewed from its original purpose?

And joanro...for someone who applauds that kind of observation, you sure had no issue commenting on the thread before with absolutely no information about hodie.

Applauding beetree, here here!

by beetree on 17 February 2016 - 21:02

You seem to have a certain bone you keep picking at. And since you seem unawares of the complete history of Hodie, this site and its moderation, I stand by my previous post.

Would seem so much fairer if the named and searched for party was actually here to put these so called theories to bed, herself, since it is all being done in her (dis)honor.

by Bavarian Wagon on 17 February 2016 - 21:02

I'm actually not really discussing Hodie...I stated that earlier that I didn't know her and didn't know the exact reasons for her leaving. I was discussing why people like Hodie, who have experience, have knowledge, end up getting to that point and packing their bags. I also haven't responded to a single post that had to do with Hodie in particular because of my lack of knowledge of the situation. I tried to look up what exactly happened but it looks like that was probably removed from the forum so unless you were reading it at the time there is no knowing exactly what happened. It's at that point that I figured there's no reason to keep discussing Hodie leaving (as the majority of the current forum probably has no idea what happened) and the discussion went towards what leads to those types of situations happening in the first place. I personally see absolutely nothing done to dishonor Hodie, someone who is not objective about the situation, might read into the statements being made and believe that, but anyone that reads the comments for what they are isn't going to go about crying that someone is being spoken badly of when that poster is not even mentioned in any of the posts.

I thank you for proving my point though...it's the "royal court" that ruins the discussions by entering the fray and thinking that someone's honor needs defending when no defending is necessary. You probably hold this Hodie in high regard and so even though she's not being discussed and nothing negative has been said about her, it still hurts you deeply that there is a discussion happening about why people leave forums. Like I stated earlier, if you just read the posts for what they are, without trying to add prior history to them, you'd see they're objective. But you can't do that so you impart your own feelings on the content of the posts. Then, the classic forum move...deflect and make it seem like the other person is doing the attacking..."you seem to have a certain bone you keep picking at." No...no bone here...admitted earlier and in this post that I have no idea who she is, what she's done, or why she left. What some people need to realize about internet forums is that plenty of users will stop posting, get banned, leave on their own accord, and the forum will live on just fine without them...no matter what kind of experience and knowledge they brought to the table.

I also wanted to add this earlier but the "I like this post" or "great post so-and-so" are a huge part of what ruins a decent discussion. It's the "clique" or the "royal court" making themselves known, showing support for the member of their group (usually doesn't matter if they're right or not), and not actually adding anything useful or significant to the discussion. So for someone who has an issue with the fact that a thread has gone astray, they should also worry about the waste of internet space all those types of posts take up.

by joanro on 17 February 2016 - 22:02

At least saying 'bravo' takes up a lot less 'internet space' than the hypocritical redundant long winded rants that are as lacking in information as they are boring.

by beetree on 17 February 2016 - 22:02

I only have the inclination to point out to you, your own first sentence admits to being OT.

What becomes of that fact is not up to me. I shall not be returning to this thread for continued discussion. If you start a new one, one never knows.
