She's discharging a LOT of blood, and it has clots in it, which I've never seen before with her heat. But what bothers me is her vulva isn't really swollen the way it normally is when she is in season. So, still not sure what is going on. And Ranger didn't actually mate with her. He's far too unsteady on his feet for that, poor guy!
Fever was down to 103 this morning, and she seems a bit livelier this evening. The real test will be when I feed her. She's hardly touched her food since Saturday.
Okay, evening temp is 102.2, which is pretty much normal, but she still ate very little.
1GSD1, there seems to be a connection between pyometra and close cycles in bitches. My friend's bitch that got pyo at about the same age as Eska generally had a 4 month cycle, and Eska's second heat was only 4 months after the first This current heat, though was 6 months after the last one.

Call me if you need me and you don't see me on here. I'll keep an eye here for a few days.

Okay, since Tuesday, this has gone from the vet not thinking Eska was sick enough to merit antibiotics to yup, we've got a full blown pyo! Her WBC count is off the scale, and the uterus is very distended (took an x-ray)
We'll be heading to the Ontario Veterinary College at Guelph for treatment, as I don't trust the nearest veterinary emergency clinic. Guelph also has reproductive specialists on staff, so they are much more experienced with dealing with this sort of stuff than your average E.R.
Here's the one piece of GOOD news from today: Are those nice hips, or what?

Geez, are you the unluckiest or what??? I hope she will be ok!
Will she be spayed or treated and bred next cycle?

She's an absolute beast on the schutzhund field, and will turn herself inside out trying to get to the decoy's tug/bite bag.
The vet's one concern was the lack of white blood cells in the vaginal smear. She has a very copious bloody discharge, but there are almost no white cells in it. It makes her concerned as to whether it's an open or closed pyo, and whether it can be treated.
