Knowing the types of work he expects his dogs to do, I'm assuming he goes more defense on the dogs from the onset. More of an old school technique where you truly test the dog's nerves at a more mature age rather than building them up through prey work. I haven't done the second option unless with purely green dogs and the only ones I've done it with have had drive pouring out of every crevice so it didn't make a difference.

I think for sport you'd like to start biting/drive foundation early so that you can then add the control needed at a certain point. I personally also like to institute some control at an early age so that the dog is ready for it when it gets tougher as it gets older.

Not sure what the differences are, I know high level sport dogs are generally started very early on. But I also know plenty who aren't and do just fine as well.

I think both methods have their merits and it's tough to say which one is best. Just depends on your goals and the dog you've got.

I made the experience the sooner you start to train a "normal" dog ( obedience, bitework, tracking ) the easier the training - just my experience, no rule !
The older the dog, the more pressure and corrections needed - the younger the dog, the less corrections and pressure, kind of "guidelines" only.
Prey or defense doesn´t really matter as long as it´s according to the mindset and development of the pup/dog.

Conformation: yogi, you are spot on - she is "very good" - and a "very good" is perfectly fine according to the breed standard.
She is not the "perfect" dog ( but - who is?) - front angulation kind of steep, the croup not perfect, the coat - typical working line coat, not able to hide anything...
I´d show her with IPO title in the working class, she will need some more time to fill out, by that time an SG rating is fair.

Susie that's what iv said I given the dog the experience of biting with here prey drive she will bite all day. I test her around all kinds of noise gun shots different surfaces a good dog should be able to work through a little pressure at her age .

Nice looking female. I agree with Susie. I start the minute I get the dog. Even if that is a puppy 7 weeks. Most of the stuff you do for a while, you don't want or need obedience in the bitework. Later comes capping and obedience. Don't get me wrong, obedience is being worked on too, but not early in any protection work.

I'd like to see better pasterns, but love the angles on this girl. Nice and compact. Would like to see maybe a little more coat, but it's largely for aesthetic reasons. Nice high wither and a decent croup. Underline is a little extreme, would like more moderation.

Chaz as I said I do start with bite work but I move to obedience . Iv bought dogs at 2years old never done bite work .never had a problem bringing them to bite if it's there it there and in the way I do bite work a little bit of prey work to start and can move to pressure defence fairly quickly . Where with a puppy you work in prey for a long time no real pressure dog focused on sleeve way to much

The underline is the opposite side of the topline. It covers the bottom point of the chest leading all the way up into the flank.
