Question, how often does anyone start a light conversation with a total stranger in a public space?

It used to be common practice with everyone I have ever been around, I swear it is rare these days and its not just some problem with me, its an actual thing IMO.

How much do you use Public Transport ? I find you can quite often have those sort of conversations at bus stops & on train stations. Not that they are often in much depth, just, as you say,'light' - maybe about the weather.
But then, its partly about how approachable you are; me, I'll chat and pass the time of day with just about anybody. I honestly do not feel this is less likely as time goes by, although it is, for me, since I moved out of London. Now I drive just about everywhere, it only gets a chance to happen when I make odd trips involving spending time standing around in public spaces. I still chat with folks running shops, the Library, places like that. Which is about the same as it always was. Not everyone is so glued to a small screen that they become totally unapproachable.

I just feek like evolution is speeding up ATM, not sure what creature will emerge, I won't be around to see it and am fine with that.     ---vk4

You are not alone with that feeling. If Mindhunt still is reading, I would appreciate her evaluation of this psychologist's attempt to address and define the dark personality continuum that we are seeing more and more often and which engages Computer Information Technology (CIT) to harm strangers with no clear purpose. This information will become more valuable and unfortunately, needed, is my feeling. This link is intended to be educational for anyone who is feeling they are being singled out as a target for abuse.

Thanks for the link beetree as I definitely feel like I am being singled out for abuse.

@Noitsyou, y'know, I got that impression too ...odd, hey ?

I find it odd that bee really thinks she is an innocent being targeted and harassed.

I bet nobody else sees that except bee.

You would be wrong. The appropriate thing to do would be to let us both ignore each other, and (I would be happy to make it mutual to include you and Hundmutter). And then it would be the end.

Please let that happen, otherwise you will be taking a role outlined in the link I have provided.

Thanks for the article Bee, very interesting and IMO very applicable to some of the posters on this site.

The problem I see is these ideological hermaphrodites are incapable of recognizing their own shortcomings.

Hopefully they can LEARN how to ignore others...

I can recognize your shortcomings very well. If you were truly interested in making things better then you wouldn't have made a divisive and insulting comment like that. You are guilty of the very thing you are crying like a baby about. You want others to learn how to ignore others? What did Jesus say in Matthew 7:3? Maybe you should read Luke 4:23: Cura te ipsum.

WTF is an "ideological hermaphradite" anyway ? Are we supposed to find that term 'abusive'?
