Climate change is caused by many factors. Do you know what is the by far the biggest factor. Sun spots. Sun spots make human activity look like a pimple on the but of Mount Everest.
Also CO2 as a greenhouse gas is not the biggest greenhouse gas. H20= water vapor is. Water is not produced by man. man can not do anything about water vapor. When water vapor rises it colls and makes cloud. That actually leads to cooling.
As far a CO2 goes air can absorb only limited amount of CO2 same as a sponge can only absorb so mmuch water. So the scare of unlimited out of controll growth of CO2 in air is a pseudoscientific hoax to scare little children and scientifically ignoramuses to pay more taxes for a carbon footprint.
Global Warming
Roy Spencer, PhD.
“Global warming” refers to the global-average temperature increase that has been observed over the last one hundred years or more. But to many politicians and the public, the term carries the implication that mankind is responsible for that warming. This website describes evidence from my group’s government-funded research that suggests global warming is mostly natural, and that the climate system is quite insensitive to humanity’s greenhouse gas emissions and aerosol pollution.

Believe it or not, very little research has ever been funded to search for natural mechanisms of warming…it has simply been assumed that global warming is manmade. This assumption is rather easy for scientists since we do not have enough accurate global data for a long enough period of time to see whether there are natural warming mechanisms at work.

The United Nation’s Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) claims that the only way they can get their computerized climate models to produce the observed warming is with anthropogenic (human-caused) pollution. But they’re not going to find something if they don’t search for it. More than one scientist has asked me, “What else COULD it be?” Well, the answer to that takes a little digging… and as I show, one doesn’t have to dig very far.

But first let’s examine the basics of why so many scientists think global warming is manmade. Earth’s atmosphere contains natural greenhouse gases (mostly water vapor, carbon dioxide, and methane) which act to keep the lower layers of the atmosphere warmer than they otherwise would be without those gases. Greenhouse gases trap infrared radiation — the radiant heat energy that the Earth naturally emits to outer space in response to solar heating. Mankind’s burning of fossil fuels (mostly coal, petroleum, and natural gas) releases carbon dioxide into the atmosphere and this is believed to be enhancing the Earth’s natural greenhouse effect. As of 2008, the concentration of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere was about 40% to 45% higher than it was before the start of the industrial revolution in the 1800′s.

It is interesting to note that, even though carbon dioxide is necessary for life on Earth to exist, there is precious little of it in Earth’s atmosphere. As of 2008, only 39 out of every 100,000 molecules of air were CO2, and it will take mankind’s CO2 emissions 5 more years to increase that number by 1, to 40.

The “Holy Grail”: Climate Sensitivity Figuring out how much past warming is due to mankind, and how much more we can expect in the future, depends upon something called “climate sensitivity”. This is the temperature response of the Earth to a given amount of ‘radiative forcing’, of which there are two kinds: a change in either the amount of sunlight absorbed by the Earth, or in the infrared energy the Earth emits to outer space.

The ‘consensus’ of opinion is that the Earth’s climate sensitivity is quite high, and so warming of about 0.25 deg. C to 0.5 deg. C (about 0.5 deg. F to 0.9 deg. F) every 10 years can be expected for as long as mankind continues to use fossil fuels as our primary source of energy. NASA’s James Hansen claims that climate sensitivity is very high, and that we have already put too much extra CO2 in the atmosphere. Presumably this is why he and Al Gore are campaigning for a moratorium on the construction of any more coal-fired power plants in the U.S.

You would think that we’d know the Earth’s ‘climate sensitivity’ by now, but it has been surprisingly difficult to determine. How atmospheric processes like clouds and precipitation systems respond to warming is critical, as they are either amplifying the warming, or reducing it. This website currently concentrates on the response of clouds to warming, an issue which I am now convinced the scientific community has totally misinterpreted when they have measured natural, year-to-year fluctuations in the climate system. As a result of that confusion, they have the mistaken belief that climate sensitivity is high, when in fact the satellite evidence suggests climate sensitivity is low.

The case for natural climate change I also present an analysis of the Pacific Decadal Oscillation which shows that most climate change might well be the result of….the climate system itself! Because small, chaotic fluctuations in atmospheric and oceanic circulation systems can cause small changes in global average cloudiness, this is all that is necessary to cause climate change. You don’t need the sun, or any other ‘external’ influence (although these are also possible…but for now I’ll let others work on that). It is simply what the climate system does. This is actually quite easy for meteorologists to believe, since we understand how complex weather processes are. Your local TV meteorologist is probably a closet ‘skeptic’ regarding mankind’s influence on climate.

The trouble with arguing that much of the climate change is down to 'natural causes' (ie there have always been patterns of change to Earth's overall climate, but they are so slow and take place over so long a time period that human interpretation of what is happening has to be incomplete and inadequate) is that then humans become appathetic about the improvements we CAN make, and influence we CAN have, which will improve the situation for ourselves, within OUR and our descendents time-frame.

Me thinks “Mother Earth” is just getting old !
Yep, it happens to the best of us!
It ain’t pretty 😮😝😊,,,,,

Mother earth is aging BUT there are plenty of objects in space that are older than earth. The problem lies in us. We have allowed, participated and been complicit in its problems and if you think otherwise you are sadly mistaken. Hans - you have a very good point - warming does happen on its own over time for various reasons, just like cooling can happen over time but are you 100% certain that man is not going to tip that balance so out of whack the planet cannot recover and spins into a cycle of ever warming conditions. You bring up sunspots but the problem there is solar minimum which by the way we are in the middle of and theoretically we should be in a cooling stage but a funny thing is happening we aren't. Why?

Could that be because of the effects man-made changes are having on planetary warming, Admin ? (I rest my case).
Not to mention air pollution. Not to mention excess of unwanted plastics.

No harm in pointing out what would be inexorably happening anyway; but when the tone of contributions from most of those pointing this out seems to be "ok we can't do anything to change that, therefore let's ignore what we can do for the here and now" ignores the fact that we have to co-exist with the results for the forseeable future, while humankind remains in play; when we ought to be making every possible effort to minimise the effects, for as long as possible.

From what I understand from my scientist friends, CO2 is a large contributor to climate change, however the heat trapping abilities of gases that are a smaller percentage of the contributing gases to climate change have a much higher potential for trapping heat such as Nitrous Oxide (300 times more powerful at the molecular level) and Methane (20 times).  Nitrous Oxide is only 6% of the gases contributing to climate change while methane is 17%.  Prior to industrialization, the amount of CO2 was relatively steady for millions of years, then along came industrialization which increased the over all amount by 40%.  CO2 makes up 68% of the gases contributing to climate change and the reason CO2 is so dangerous is the half life is significantly longer making CO2 one of the the gases that sticks around.  But what contributes to the high CO2 content that is causing such devastation: deforestation, burning coal and oil and gas,  CAFOs (commercial agricultural feeding operations) are a HUGE contributor to gases increasing climate change, fertilizers containing nitrogen, fluorinated gases that produce a warming effect up to 23,000 times greater than CO2 but are a rather small amount and are regulated by EU.

Regardless of what people believe is contributing, it is happening and with devastating effects.  The melting of the polar ice caps is raising the sea levels and causing many animals that rely on the ice to starve (polar bears are becoming so endangered because of starvation). Salinity of the sea is causing changes to what life can live in that new salinity starting with microscopic algae and plankton and impacting much of the sea life as it goes up the food chain.  The oceans are warming up and the gulf stream is actually shifting, causing major upheavals in weather as well as climate.  Look at the storms we have been having and the severity as well as where they are happening.  I could go on but we all watch/read the news.  We need to make this country one of those countries that agrees to reduce contributions to climate change and damn the corporations greedy attempts to stop it.

The man-made  effect of global warming or cooling or whatever you want to call it at present time is a pimple on an earth's butt in comparison to what solar flares will do, volcano explosion does, the wobble of the earth axes does and on and on.

On top of it, the political scam artists like Gore,  who is heavily invested in solar energy and other inefficient by gov subsidized crap and he and others like him, in order to make trillions in profit, need to steal your money to finance it through carbon footprint tax. They are taking money from your pocket to their pocket while you blissfully help them to do so.

The scam is in the fact, that these scam perpetrators are scaring little children and old folks from Nebraska by only showing them / you the short uptrend in larger general temperature downward trend.  In another word they are showing you only a couple of hundreds or thousands of years or so which is a hickup uptrend in general geological downtrend of the temperature of the earth where obviously this long downtrend does not have anything to do with human activity nor it is affected by it because such human activity which supposedly creates human global warming had been around for no more than 100 years.  Thus there are different scales of global warming. On the large scale the earth is 4.5 billion years old but let's not go that far let's just go back only 542 millions years which is about 8.3 less than the age of the earth. Below is a temp chart: So as you can see we are in a cold period!!!!!! So all that bullsht about manmade global warming is a joke and HOAX GENERATED BY POLITICIANS TO TAX CARBON!!!!!! What a scam!!!!! And in these matters, uneducated useful idiots all over the world are clapping while the government is bending them over giving it to them hard by stealing their money. Sorry I get excited when I see a lie and lack of critical thinking to recognize  an obvious  HOAX.

So as you can see from the chart we are in COLD PERIOD!!!!!!

Here watch this if you care:
The scientist explains the hoax to a politician. This is extremally revealing. If you care about the truth that is.
