In case anybody else is staying in the fight for a while, or just interested in the Topic:

Might be worth pointing out a couple more things about "Antifa". 1) Nobody will deny that in protests such as those I have been involved in for years, sometimes things go over the top, with burning and looting and so on. But this (from the inside, remember) is not what most of those protesting set out or seek to do, and most of us would never do it. When we see it happen however we are aware that there are 3 things about it which are undeniable. The first is sometimes folk get SO angry at being ignored and abused that they react in OTT ways; the second that they almost all damage their own communities by getting that mad (with what some of us see as maybe righteous anger) and lashing out and looting - its not a good look but it is a better one than deliberately planning to go along to break up a protest and taking guns ("guns don't kill, people do") and shooting 'n' driving cars at crowds; thirdly that we too suffer from media manipulation and exageration - just 'cos its a good exciting story to attract viewers' and readers' money  ( I won't go into further speculation about wealthy media moguls trying to dominate the way the world thinks and being prepared to lie in order to do so).  And I have not even touched on a 4th thing, which IS deniable - but none the less, possible - and that is that the forces of reaction are stirring it up, and may even be responsible for those convenient drop-offs of bricks and bottles.  See, we on the Left can be just as paranoid about conspiracies as can you on the Right.

I'll tell you this much: if I had my health and youth all over again and this time I decided to be a lawbreaker, the places I would choose to attack would not be the corner grocery store in my own neighbourhood or the next; like the Sufragettes ended up doing, I would attack government buildings and any houses of the rich I could manage to get near.

2)  The next thing about 'Antifa' is that Trump seems to think he invented the term, for his tweets.  Well anyone who is concerned enough to do a little research of their own will find it has been around a lot longer ! I believe it was coined as slang for anti-fascist back in the 60s and that Stokely Carmichael first used it.  That was in the days when it was being used in a positive sense... reckon those soldiers who died in WWII would be deeply upset to see "anti fascist" become a right-wing insult.  Especially in this of all weeks.

 

EDITED TO ADD:  Oh, and ML + TWC ?  Whenever I have attended a demo outside my own city, I have paid for my own transport, thank you very much, whether it has been by train or (very occasionally) by communally organised bus.  Never given free travel by anyone, shady or otherwise.  Probably at least mostly the same in your country.

The reason I said I don't care what you think is because you are so off based on this. We are here where it's happening. You paid your way, their way is being paid. Yet you act like they are following your rules. Fly over here and observe them, then tell us what is happening in OUR own country. There are also being paid by the hour in addition to everything else, how is that not organized?

You may think your input is an observation, your input is IMO is merely a guess from the other side of the pond. They are basically not protesting, they are rioting, burning, looting, raping, attacking and injuring people, taking over property and buildings. So many additional people have armed themselves you basically can't by a gun or ammunition, especially ammunition, they are all sold out.

But ML, some are saying exactly the same generalised rubbish about BLM and similar protests over here, and have done in the past - what I am trying to get you to see is that this demonisation of a whole disparate group of like-minded people is unrealistic and unfair. And exagerated. And paranoid. And unproven. Whichever side of the Pond is involved. I am NOT saying that nothing untoward ever creeps into the setting up of protests; just that the majority of protesters are sincere and are not being bought or prompted in the way that your posts constantly suggest ALL are.  Also, that you do not really know WHO it is that is doing the setting up and shoving in certain directions; it isn't automatically anyone who actually agrees with the aims of the protests !

The original Antifa has no direct connection with the current movement, though it takes inspiration from it.

You started the thred, TWC, but it does not really set out to educate about 'Antifa', does it ? - it is more to serve as yet another Topic for propaganda. See, that's puzzling some of us: how come 99% of 'political' Topics posted on here are from the same handful of right-wing thinking people who hang out 'round PDB.  What is the aim ? Is it 'organised' ? :-) !!! What do you expect from your readership ? Do you think anyone is going to tug their forelock and agree with your world-view, and laud what you are posting as valuable ?  It certainly does not seem you do it for the encouragement of debate and discussion. OPs almost never answer anyone's questions about what they claim.With the exception of reproducing the odd long battery of lists, of course.

Funny, but those of us on the Left, or even the middle ground, do not generally see any need to keep posting this sort of 'warning' (though we certainly could). Or the relevance, given the sort of website PDB is. Despite widespread accusations that the Left in particular is forever forcing its views down everyones' throats via propaganda methods.

There seems also to be some misapprehension that Topics posted on PDB are viewed in some sort of vacuum;  do you folk not realise that we hear other voices and narratives from America, which do not accord with yours ?  Just because you clearly do not want to 'hear' any views other than your  own - judging by responses on here - you are refusing to listen to your compatriots too. I'm speaking of other 'ordinary' Americans, not the mouthpieces of CNN or whatever.  Do you seriously believe none of 'us' ever hear from people in the US, other than a handful of k**** writing on PDB's Off Topic ???
