~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ WARNING: Be aware that there are many fake cashiers checks in circulation. The fake cashiers checks are so good that not even the banks can tell they're fake until it's too late. We advise not to accept any kind of cashiers checks from *anybody* as payment for what you're selling and to find an alternative payment method. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I can only say, don¿t accept these cashiers checks. First of all you get an email from a man who needs a dog for his wife as a present for her 35th birthday. They don¿t discuss about a price, nothing ! They accept every price you will tell them. After having everything arranged for shipping and healthy documents you¿ll receive a check about much more money !!! ( I wanted 3500 Euro and received 12 000 Euro ). The check came from Ireland. I emailed what I should do with the rest of the money and I was told I should send to Nigeria by Western Union. I didn¿t. I gave the ckeck to my bank and they warned me to receive money from Nigeria. So they kept the check and asked for the money to where the check came from. I never received money and I thank God that I¿ve choosen the safe way. If you give the check to your bank you have another posssibility : The money will be chashed into your account from your personal banc. After that they ask for the money at the banc where the check came from. If you take that money and send it back to Nigeria, you¿ll loose that money ! The banc will not receive money from the other banc and asks the money back from you ! Be careful ! They operate from everywhere, especially Ireland and Nigeria.
Any time that I have done any long distance dollar transactions, I found wire transfers the most effective. Most banks offer it and it can be done nationally and internationally so it is very accommodating. The fees are minimal and the confirmations are quick. That way you know the "money" is there.
I received the warning through my e-mail. It was forwarded to many people and apparently came from a classified site originally. Seems they are also coming from the Netherlands and a few other places. From what I have seen the wording is very similar and they always seem to ask for your "last offer" which should be enough to tip you off they are a Scam. If you accept a Bank check, contact the bank it was drawn on to verify it is real and allow plenty of time for it to clear before you send out a dog. Never accept more than the amount agreed to. I doubt many people will be taken by something like this but they wouldn't keep doing it if they weren't successful a percentage of the time.
PayPal is now a very convenient payment option as well, particularly if you're not set up to accept credit cards.
I also received this kind of e-mails from somebody in Nigeria. I just ignore it. It is not look real when somebody whant to buy a dog and don't ask for picture and more info.
Be careful even with Paypal. There is a virus doing the rounds, it is called W32.Mimail.l@mm. It arrives with an email saying your subscription has expired and contains a fake credit card transaction form. I have never used Paypal, although I AM registered with Ebay, which is presumably how it got my address. It was picked up by Norton, so keep your anti-virus stuff up-to-date.
Whizzie, I agree. I also would get 2 anti virus softwares because you may never know that the anti virus software that you have now will not catch a undetected virus but the other software could :) also use firewalls so you can stop people from getting your information, like credit card information,etc. I personally recommend that you use one of the following or both if you can. Black Ice Defender This is a very user-friendly comprehensive firewall program. I highly recommend it to both advance and novice users. It has a simple graphical interface that is easy to understand and pleasing to the eye. It detects your attacker, stops their attack and or scan and gives you as much information available on the “attacker.” You can download Black Ice Defender at: http://www.networkice.com 44 Lockdown 2000 I also recommend Lockdown 2000 as a security measure. Lockdown2000 has a very nice graphical interface to it also and is user friendly. It does the same thing Black Ice Defender does but also runs scans on your system for Trojans. It monitors your registry and system files for changes that occur. Then gives you the option of either undoing all the changes or allowing it. You can obtain a copy of Lockdown2000 from: http://www.lockdown2000.com Zone Alarm ( both free or pro, but pro is better, of course). This is a very user friendly firewall. I use it personally. Also includes anti pop-ups, web filters that can control the pop-up that you have. to download a copy of Zone alarm go to http://www.zonelabs.com/ Anti Virus Software This is also another piece of software you should by all means have on your system. We all know it’s a necessity however we are all guilty of not using them. There are numerous anti-virus software out there. Norton Anti virus and Mcafee are two of the more common ones. They are all good and do their job. You can find each of these programs at: http://www.norton.com http://www.mcafee.com
Also I forgot to add in something else. If you get an email from a fake paypal address, for an example.... Ebay@aol.com or Ebay@ebayersz.com delete it. If you feel that theirs something wrong to contact the tech of Paypal to see if they really had sent you an email. Theirs alot of people who's wanting to access a paypal account, so they can transfer money into their accounts, so they can get rich while you suffer. I don't know much about paypal but if they have a password that you use, don't use Random names, like apples,etc. The person can obtain a password cracking program and will guess your password, until they get it right. Use passwords like rt85f783, for an example. the harder the password and harder that it can be cracked :) Also NEVER accept pictures that has. JPEG.exe. theirs no reason why it needs to have an .exe at the end. this includes: .com .exe .txt.vbs .Pdf(any normal files, none harmful).exe Ok I'm done but I'm sure you guys know of what I'm talking about :)
