George: I have no doubts that what is "developing" here in Great Britain is very exciting and most importantly very beneficial for the future of our GSD breed. Many countries around the World are certainly watching developments here, with particular interest coming from many other WUSV Clubs, who are incidentally, along with the WUSV, openly declaring their fullest support for the GSD League's endeavours.

There are of course the cynics and the fearful, which mainly stems from comfort with the existing system and the threat to personal position and status within the existing pathetic and outdated hierarchy. and also the natural fear of change.

There are some who are attempting to undermine developments to protect their own particular interests, not least of course the Kennel Club. Who have most certainly realised they have bitten off much more than they can chew. They now face the very real prospect of a crumbling Kennel Club influence and involvement in the exhibiting of Pedigree Dogs here in Great Britain, something which was unthinkable only a year ago.

The GSD League and many other GSD Clubs, which incidentally are most of the major GSD Clubs here in Great Britain, have taken that all important step in refusing to yield to a Kennel Club threat which was both unnecessary and dictatorial.

The GSDL/WUSV developing programme has got off to an excellent start and this momentum must be maintained. I am particularly interested in the GSD League introducing their very own GSD Breed Survey, whilst continuing to recognise the GSD Breed Councils Breed Survey as well as the SV Korung and other European breed surveys. I am also keen for the GSDL to introduce Championship Status to their GSDL/WUSV GSD Events. GSD Champions are an important fact of our breeds history in Britain and the removal of CC's was the powerful weapon which the Kennel Club chose to use against our GSD breed clubs. We must now remove that weapon from the Kennel Club forever by introducing our very own Championship system. The details of such a system are very close to being ready and they are very exciting indeed.

Many other issues relating to infrastructure need to be addressed, particularly in respect of socialising and training opportunities for our breed on a national scale. This would offer a bedrock for the training requirements which will be necessary for any working qualifications which may be considered for our GSD Breed Survey. I am very concerned that we do not introduce any working requirements, no matter how small, before we develop our health and welfare priorities and our essential socialisation and training infrastructure. We must prioritise and we must not damage our prospects and progress, we certainly must never put the cart before the horse, so to speak.

There is also a pressing need for a GSDL/WUSV National Consultive Council (NCC). The GSD Breed Clubs which support the GSDL/WUSV initiative need to be involved in many aspects of its development and they have much to offer in determining its progress and its success. The initiative is fully inclusive, it offers genuine choice for those that want to follow the SV breeding and exhibiting system and for those that do not want to. It fully recognises that many GSD owners and breeders/exhibitors may never want to train their dogs in Schutzhund. The GSD League are developing a genuine British System which is fully inclusive and offers CHOICE, for that I applaud them, for that  actively support them, for that I ask all genuine GSD enthusiasts everywhere to fully and meaningfully support them.
