Trixx- ok, thanks for the information!!

Blitzen- thanks for the hock suggestion.Yup...you're right!

Rik, thanks!

Jenni- thank you as well!  It is all a learning experience for me!! hahaha
I think I want to try it though and have fun and see what happens!! She definitely does not have a lot of bone..at all!! She's very feminine looking and I see the V and VA bitches have a lot of substance and can kind of look male.  So, I don't think she would rate that high but a G would be great and a SG might put me on cloud nine!!!

Eurospeherd- ok. Good advice! So, get her use to gaiting in larger area and try to find someone to handle.  Is there a list of handler people that regularly go to shows? I know someone suggested contacting the show and asking for handlers.

Does anyone know how much handlers charge?  What is a fair rate to handle at a local breed show?

Thanks again, everyone, for all the suggestions and comments!!!

Sara

Many Schutzhund clubs will hold show training prior to a show to help you practice, and most clubs have at least a few handlers or show people that handle that they can reffer you to!  She is a beautiful girl, from the photos looks correct enough to make SG in the youth class and would probably make a "V" in the working classes if you put a Schutzhund title on her.  I would just put her in and have fun, thats how you learn!  I always have a lot of fun at the SV shows!

Sara,

You should be able to show her at either a USA or WDA show. Expect to pay between 0 and 50.00 for a handler. Usually the club has someone that will help for free depending on which show you enter. Just ask the show secretary when you enter if they can set one up for you.

Take the time to prepare her for the ring. The better she does, the better chance you have at a better rating.

To give you some idea of the German view on black dogs I would suggest that you look up V BSZS Buster vom Adelmannsfelder Land  on this DB under pedigree search.   This male has excellent construction but he could only finish V150.   What a pity.  Since the days of Hermann Martin when he decided that he did not want  blacks or bi-colours I cannot remember one black dog making a very high place at a show.   That is still the situation today.   Only two grey dogs dogs have made the VA group since then and they are Timo v Berrekasten and Orno v Murrtal (Orno had his VA status withdrawn due to some irregularity).

The young female that began this thread is still very raw but given time to develop I think that she should be able to get SG and passed for breeding provided she fulfils all the other criteria.

Wow..Mackenzie. That is a big bummer about black and bicolor dogs.  I looked up Buster and he looks just like a black/red structure V type dogs except he is black. He is SO handsome!!

I was told that it is really, really hard to finish a black dog in AKC for its Championship too.

It seems to me that color should be the last thing that is looked at and only to make sure it is not too diluted......

In regard to your comment about my puppy, thank you!!! It sure would be great if she could get a SG this coming summer!!! But, I'll even take a G. I think both will count for her breed survey someday. Then, I guess I would need to get a ScH title or a HGH.

Thanks,
Sara

Sorry, I just remembered there was another grey dog that made VA and his name is Wanko v Maaraue.  That was in 1981.

Hi Sara, I see your nice working line puppy.
Your dog must not have any disqualifying faults and
dog's  below one year are graded Promissing or Very Promissing good only
.

My comments would be as follows:-

A large puppy bitch with medium bone and long in proportion.
She has very good head and expression, a long neck, high withers,
a long level back with a short and steep croup and  a low tail set. Still showing a good top line.
The front angulations could be better. The shoulder blade is well placed, but
the upper arm is short and steep. the hind angulations is very good.
She has a good depth of chest and the fore chest will develope with time.
The fronts are good but I prefer stronger pasterns.
The hocks are clean and should be perpendicular to the ground.

As for showing in the ring, try to apply a little tension on the lead by pulling back while walking
and command her to pull. When she moves forward encourage her.

Hope the above helps.

Wishing all a Very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Sonora, Wow! Thank you very, very much for providing such an honest, in depth analysis of my puppy. I really appreciate you taking the time to do that for me! I am going to print it out and save it!! I plan on showing her after she turns one so the SV rating "will count" into adulthood. I am going to have to work on her pulling out in front.... Thanks again, Sara
