On the killing of rabbits ... well you guys, why d'you think I was happy for 'em to chase n kill their
own ?  Was a gun we could use, to reduce the rabbit and woodpigeon plagues on the estate -
but  there is no way I wanted to be the baddie LOL.  It was bad enough having to pick up to dispose
of the remains, when there were any.

For awhile I raised my own meat rabbits to feed my dogs...I'm looking forward to doing it again...hopefully next year?

My first litter of pups, 8 of them, they were just over 6 weeks old.  I butchered an old adult doe meat rabbit, probably a 15 pounder, I skinned the majority of the fur off of it, but otherwise left it completely intact, blood, guts, feet, head and all.   I let the pups out into the yard and gave them their first taste of raw meat.  Imagine, 8 adorable, cuddly puppies transformed into a vicious shark feeding frenzy, LOL.   There was an awful lot of growling and ripping rabbit pieces, but everyone was so busy chowing down that no one was bitten, lol.  The rabbit was so big that the puppies stuffed themselves and were unable to finish it, in the end the big thighs and head were still there, so the sire and dam got to clean up.

It was a fascinating 20 minute National Geographic show right in my back yard.

All of my current GSDs have caught and killed wild critters;  rabbits, squirrels and ground hogs.  But only one has shown interest in eating it's kills, my other dogs aren't interested in eating an animal if it still has fur on it.

the way the general public is now days I would be worried about letting my dogs catch and kill,  as in all their dangerous dog acts. and how they classify it.   I personally don't have a problem with it and if I lived in a low population area would let mine.

Melba, Thanks..
all this talk about rabbit makes me want to have rabbit stew....

has anyone had turtles that their dogs pulled out of shell and ate it?....now THAT is gross...
(mine have not done that but someone i know had a pet turtle, and when their dog got it out of the shell we were all in the back yard grilling...they could not catch their dog to get it back while dog was chomping it down......lets just say we all somewhat lost our appetite)

rtdmmcintyre - in my case, was private land;  so Jo Public could not see it happening !  I would be
much more cautious if we were talking about my own dog(s) and public areas LOL
