Comment from Carol Keen, the breeder/ owner of the Crufts 2010 GSD B.O.B. regarding the latest Kennel Club Statement.

“To breed and own a GSD like Clokelly Lagos has been my life’s ambition. I am dedicated to this lovely GSD breed.
I have taken Lagos through every health screening test appropriate for our breed, which he has passed with flying colours. I have also taken Lagos through the most stringent assessment tests and examinations for GSD in Germany, our breeds motherland. Again he has passed them ALL with flying colours. I have actively supported the Kennel Club and its licensed shows for many years, something I am currently questioning very seriously indeed.

I find the latest Kennel Club Statement deeply offensive, and like me, I am sure the majority of our GSD breed enthusiasts will be deeply insulted by it.

The Kennel Club have failed to make any reference to the complaints made to them about the television interview itself being unfair, and insulting, and in very bad taste. Particularly against a GSD judged to be best of breed, and a GSD specialist judge. A GSD Judge specifically selected by the Kennel Club for his qualifications and qualities, who was singularly abandoned, unsupported by the Kennel Club Secretary in this TV interview.

The Kennel Club Secretary surely had a duty to the exhibitor and the GSD exhibit correctly entered and judged at its own Crufts Show, and the GSD Judge, during that infamous TV interview. She completely failed in this respect, concentrating solely and unjustifiably on scoring points against the GSD breed, disgraceful indeed. Especially considering the exemplary status of my dogs show record, health screening record and assessments record.

The Kennel Club Statement is clearly a COP-OUT, and they should be thoroughly ashamed of themselves. Our GSD exhibitors within Great Britain clearly lead the way for all pedigree dogs breeds in Health Screening and Fit for Function assessments. The Kennel Club’s choosing to focus on UNSOUNDNESS is simply to steer attention away from compulsory health screening tests, onto “visible faults”. In other words “Out of sight – Out of mind” – Then the majority of people registering GSD litters can continue ‘unrestricted’, because NO ONE will be looking at their breeding stock for UNSOUNDNESS, and they can continue NOT doing any health screening, such as Hips, Elbows, Haemophilia tests, DNA tests etc. They can continue NOT having their breeding stock assessed in any way whatsoever, especially for suitable characters and temperaments, which to the General Public is the MOST IMPORTANT ASSESSMENT FOR OUR GSD BREED.

The Kennel Club should enter meaningful discussions with our GSD breed Clubs, without further delay. The Kennel Club could all too obviously learn a great deal from them.”

Joyce, Re the KC rule you have just highlighted, do you suppose the KC are implying that all CC shows should have or have to have, a Vet in Attendance??

While some are busy focusing on control, others are looking openly at the Bigger Picture. The latest KC statement also says, quote:- " ........ it should be noted that within all of the high profile breeds, both judges and monitors were required to submit a report about the dogs that they saw before them at DFS Crufts. These reports will, as always, go to the Kennel Club’s Dog Health Group and if there is a discrepancy between them the Kennel Club will ask the relevant judge to provide an explanation, which will be assessed accordingly."

This isnt ONLY about the Judge at Crufts and his Crufts BOB and its breeder, it is about EVERY Judge and breeder of EVERY German Shepherd Dog (note GSD not Alsatian), at EVERY Club signing the KC's Undertaking and thereby holding a CC show.  Read again the part of the comment which states :- ".... if there is a discrepancy between them the Kennel Club will ask the relevant judge to provide an explanation, which will be assessed accordingly."

And just 'HOW' will the judges explanation be assessed? Or probably the more pertinant question to ask would be  'WHO' exactly will be assessing the judges explanation !!  Claire Balding perhaps? And what then? Have the KC even thought this far ahead? And if so, would they care to enlighten the rest of us with what, in such circumstances, their next actions will be should the judges opinion / explanation not be satifactorally iin sync with the KC?!!!!!! Will the KC be suspending or removing CC status from the judge? Remove the CC status from the Dog and/or suspend him from exhibition at other shows, after all they did evict a Pensioner from Crufts on the premise of her apparently Unsound 5mth old puppy, plus there is the rule Joyce  has just pointed out that says the Vet can authorise the dog be removed from further competition. Well if he was unsound at one show and according to the KC;s own Undertaking this unsoundness is a Health Issue, then surely ANY DOG EVICTED from one show, must automatically not be Healthy enough to attend another??!!

Also, whereby Crufts is one thing with good ole Claire Balding , Caroline Kisko, all these KC Monitors and Vets in attendance,  but what are the KC going to COMPARE the Breed Clubs CC judges report with? Special KC observers / Monitors that they send to every CC show? The Show Secretary's opinion and/or Annual Report?? The Club Chairmans opinion??? Any other Championship Show judges opinion or ANY complaint recieved from ANYBODY attending the show???? Furthermore, have any of these Clubs which have already signed or are preparing to sign this Undertaking even thought to ASK ??????

Regards

Gosh.

That statement says one thing to me, which is the KC thanking BAGSD for signing their contract.

Your Breed needs you. Join up now, Join the GSDL.

It is that simple.

To right Carole (noddi). !!!!!  Good Advice Simple!!!

Puts a whole new perspective on Health Issues eh !!!

THE DISGRACE OF OUR BRITISH KENNEL CLUB AND THEIR BIGOTTED NEED FOR CONTROL ARE SO BUSY BEING  FOCUSED ON THE HINDQUARTERS AND HOCKS OF THE GSD,  MOST OF WHICH HAVE SUCCESSFULLY PROVEN  HEALTH TESTS, AT THE EXPENCE OF OTHER BREEDS GOING UNHINDERED INTO PRODUCING DOGS SUFFERING AND DYING FROM VERY REAL HEALTH PROBLEMS.

THE ALL TOO TYPICAL HYPOCRACY OF THE BRITISH KENNEL CLUB
