First official intro to the breed?
A "junk yard" dog, a blanket black and tan
named "Zeek".

Was out with my pop at a wrecker
getting parts for a car, I was 7.
Dog chained to a dog house, barking lunging etc.
Was told to "stay away" from the dog-
so of course I didn't

It took a bit, but within maybe 30 mins?
I was in the chain space and  the dog was
draped across me while I picked out tufts of undercoat.

Owner of the junk yard almost had a stroke,
dad whipped my ass for not listening,
and the dog always remembered me.

Fast forward a few years and the GSD has always
been with me. Met the other half thru dogs, and
here we are.
Way less money than we should have, but "dog rich"

Fabulous and beautiful stories with wonderful photos. I also have a unquenchable passion for the GSD and so love hearing everyones memories and learning from all.

My first experience, was in 1950 -- as I'm pretty old :). We had a beautiful black german shepherd named Lily
that lived to protect his family of two adults and two children. My dad operated a bird farm in rural West Texas. I followed my dad to the bird farm one day
without him knowing. He was back at the house after chores with Lily by his side, when he heard a commotion out at the farm amongst the turkeys; there he spotted me just as Lily did.
The flock of turkeys were upon me pecking at me and my eyes. In an instant Lily made a beline to me and scattered birds everywhere.
Dad said he would never had been able to get to me in time -- so I guess I have eyes to see to this day because of a german shepherd.

We did own several more over the years and I now have my amazing girl of 5 months, Edda. I will never own another breed and
my eyes never, never tire of seeing this intense, exquisite dog or hearing amazing stories.

So I think my story is about the oldest one so far - .

Here is my second GSD, Royce of Wynthea, who was born in 1970.  He was out of a German Youth Siegerin, Xanta aus Kattenstroth (who was daughter of Siegerin Blanka vom Kisskamp) and an American Champion Dot Wall's Vance.   I lived in Bloomington, IN and later moved to Indy.   "Rory"  is jumping rope here.  I was a tad younger than I am now but never ran into Keith in Indy.
