I started training dogs in 1974, included my own Australian shepherds from late '70's (so they were actual working dogs back then) to work cattle in back woods of Florida cattle country. Would hire out with my horse and dogs to gather those wild ass cows and bulls. The first dog I ever titled was a Komondor I raised from a pup that I got from a breeder of actual guardian dogs from Colorado in 1986. I put a CD on him before he was two. He made CD in three consecutive shows in one weekend with scores in high eighties. Casper was one of only three Komondors In the entire country to receive CD that year. Then I put CD on an American line BYB GSD for a client with scores in upper nineties. Raised from pups my import WL GSDs plus a GSL and put BHs on all three two weekends in a row. Then put SchHI on Body Jipo-Me,next weekend put SchHI on Ajsa Glitch, month later put SchHIIon Ajsa and same day put SchHI on Quester vom Mittlewest. Traveled to different clubs in three states to get it done but it was worth it. Now, for the first time in my life, have entrusted someone else with training dogs of mine, with a daughter of Body and Ajsa, and a grandson of Body in training for SchH titles. They are with Richard Shook in Clearmont, NC. Too many old injuries coming back to haunt me to be able to do the work. However, I raised these youngsters and got the foundation under them so at 14 months, I handed the leads to Richard and he was able to begin training from the get go. His comment after the first week was,"I wish all the dogs I get in to train were this easy.":):)

I have titled several dogs myself.  I think it is very important for a breeder to work his/her own dogs so that you know everything about the temperment and working ability.  I don't think that good decisions regarding breeding partners can be made unless this is done.

6 BH
3 Sch1
1 Sch2
4 breed surveys
3 V ratings working class
4 AKC CD title
2 AKC CDX title
2 AKC UD title
1 leg of the AKC Novice agility title (This is something new to me)
2 certified therapy dogs

Bradley (BC) - HOT NATCH, ADCH, AX and AXJ (agility), national agility championship qualification/invitations

Rosa (BC) - I trained her to the novice level of agility so the owner's daughter could trial her.

Mac (BC) - Was just doing short outruns with sheep when I started working with him (the farmer had many dogs he used to trial and work his farm, and he was nice to let me work with Mac).  I got him to the novice level of USBCHA style herding when the owner sold him.  Still kicking myself for not buying him myself.  But herding is by far my favorite sport!

Robby (GSD) - HOT BH and SchH1.  Getting a show rating and AD this March.

Quinn (GSD) - Came to me unfortunately with a ZVV1.  Wish I had had her as a pup.  Getting a show rating and AD this March.

I need to catch up on some of you guy's SchH titles, very impressive! Though probably not anytime soon, as med school clinical years and residency loom in the not too distant future.  Hopefully my next duty station will be somewhere where they have mondio/french ring.

VKGSDs

I got my first GSD (the one in my avatar) in July 2007.  Combined my dogs have.... RN, RA, CL1-R (x2), CL1-F, T1, FO (x2), PA, OB1, SchH1, U-CH (x2), SG (x2, both 13 months), UNJ, U-CA, HIT (x4), CGC (x4), TT (x2).  Those account for rally, agility, SDA (tracking, obedience, & protection), Schutzhund, dock diving, lure coursing, herding instinct, CGC, and ATTS temperament testing.

Right now I'm actively training two male GSDs in Schutzhund, SDA, dock diving, and flyball and hope to start agility again this summer (the place I go for agility only does it outdoors).  Now that I'm working two dogs at once things will really take off!  So far for 2012 we have planned:

March - flyball tournament (Pan)
April - AD & BH (Pan), possible AD & Breed Survey (Nikon)
May - SDA trial, FO & PA or P1 (Pan), P1 and/or PD1 (Nikon)
June - UKC Premier dock diving & lure coursing (Pan & Nikon) - I LOVE the UKC Premier but I get stressed about entering trials even something like a BH so we only enter "fun" events for the Premiers (no obedience or conformation).
June - local SchH trial, SchH1 if tracking is ready (Pan)

OK, I'm in.  My first SchH dog collapsed from spondylosis at 4 years old.  He was a successful international show dog and also had the character to do Schutzhund.  However, just after his BH, was X-rayed with this terrible condition and retired.
So..I got a pup, a female daughter of Ellute v d Mohnweise and she has proved over the ensuing years to be a little spitfire and one awesome female.  She is 4 times ScH3, two times HIT and got her FH with a score of 94, and in the middle of it all, not yet 4 years old, had a litter of 8 perfect puppies.
On the other hand, I am now 60 years old and starting a pup from her litter.  He is so wonderful, outgoing, confident, full of himself and yet calm and ready.  At the tender age of 60, I am so into going up there with my dogs!
I trained my V Nadja vom Schroeder Haus, SchH3, FH, KKl1, myself with the help of my club members at West Coast German Shepherd Schutzhund Club in BC Canada and could not have done it without them!

Wanderer, 60 is the new 50. I'm considerably older than you and am just getting started with agility and rally. I swallow a lot of Advils and smell like Icy Hot LOL.

I call Advil "vitamin A."  Aleve is actually better, but not if you have more than a couple a drinks a night.

by Blitzen on 05 February 2012 - 14:02

I'l try the Aleve, Jim LOL.

Took my old girl from 8 weeks old to high V at NASS, BH, SchH1, survey, and godforsaken AD.

Unsuccessfully trialed my daughter's dog last fall, but damnit, we're getting that 1 this spring come hell or high water, and once I  x-ray my Quenn daughter I have to get my ass in gear on her.

Various conformation ratings

CD x 3
CDX x 1
UD x 1

(Most OB legs were placements)

RN x 3
One leg away from RA x 3
RE x 2

A few non-reg placements

(Mutiple perfect/placing rally scores)

CGC/TDI x 2

Coached mutiple clients through rally/OB. Most of them place with high scores. (Current exciting one is a husky we have working on a CDX level)
Coached 1 junior handler to their BH.
Coached my daughter through two CDs and up to her RE.

It's not much, but hell, I'm getting there. It's the problem with training everyone else's dogs is it leaves you little time for your own somtimes.
