Cavalier K9

by Cavalier K9 on 06 January 2012 - 16:01

Ugh, I am headed back to the Er. There gave been no contractions or pushing since the 2 females. I've been on and off the phone with my vet since 3 30 am. Poor reign is weak and nervous. Please pray everyone is ok for us! I am a nervous wreck! I will keep you all posted!

Me too, anxiously awaiting and hoping for good news, that new momma and pups are fine!

I am, frankly, disappointed that she was released so quickly last night with green discharge that got heavier and had been going on that many hours with no puppies! Someone on an internet forum shouldn't be more concerned about that than the vet. Grrr. I hope I am wrong and everyone will be fine, but I was expecting the vet to say c-section last night in light of the discharge, when Reign was strong and not worn out and when the pups would have the best chance of being ok if placentas had already separated.

I don't want to second guess, but I really do hope I'm wrong and over-reacting and paranoid and that all will be just fine!

Waiting on pins and needles, prayers going out.

I am with Jenni, I was very surprised to see that they had sent her home. I believe I would be looking for a new vet . Praying everything turns out well, I know  everyone must be drained. It is making me a little apprehensive of my first litter coming up at the end of the month. It has been almost 15 years since I helped whelp a littler of Collies for my mother. God bless them!!

Just got caught up on this thread... I hope no news is good news!  Hopefully the OP is just tired and getting some sleep before getting online!  Hopefully mom and babies are doing well!  Breeding/whelping can be so difficult sometimes :(

Jenni 78 I agree! I did not care for the ER vet that was on last night, he did a calcium level (normal) and wanted to send her home. I had to ask him to do x rays to make sure that everyone was positioned ok. The vet on today is great! There is a pup in the canal at this time it is not moving :-( vet said it is hard to tell if it is stuck or if Reign is just to weak to push. I opted to go the safer route with oxytocen and wait 40 min. If nothing then we go to surgery. As I'm sitting here regn is laying next to me and pushing. Fingers crossed she can pass this pup!

Oh, good. You're on top of it. Thank God you got a better vet today!!! I hope Reign isn't so tired that it will be much harder on her if she needs surgery. You don't want dead pups sitting in there. She may need an antibiotic, also, depending on what happens. Not trying to scare you, just explaining why I'm worried, but one of my dogs' dams died because a dead pup was blocking the way and by the time they realized it, she was exhausted, and had gone septic. She died as soon as the pups were removed; it was like she was waiting. The only indication was that she had gone off her food a little earlier and seemed tired. She was having a huge litter (13) and that one dead pup appeared to have died a few days earlier and thus, was causing infection.

I am truly not trying to scare you; I just wanted to explain why I was sooo worried when you posted about the discharge on top of the loss of appetite, size of litter, day, etc.

I think many vets today are so concentrated on spaying and neutering, that few really learn the ins and outs of reproduction and whelping complications. I do hope you report back to the one who discharged her last night!
